I just recently ordered three myself and received them in short order. I ordered just one initially but then my two brothers saw it and they were duly impressed so I placed another order...

I also ordered Bogen 3299 QR's to mount on the head of each pod to expedite switching out cameras...

No, you're good to go without the QR...

It just makes it easier to take the camera off the tripod, you just flip a lever instead of manually unscrewing the tripod mount from the camera.

I'm taking a little hiatus from S&G due to all this news w/ new cameras. As you may recall, I'm thinking about going DSLR, and sorting through all the info/news/rumors have eaten up my online time for now. I'll try to get back to S&G soon, especially as the weather improves and I can do some shooting outside.

No, it's not nearly enough for a DSLR. A lot depends on the glass you'll be using, but I think the Bogen/Manfrotto 3021 would be a good choice. If your budget permits, I would look at the Gitzo CF tripods, specifically the G1227 CF or the G1327 CF

I use the Bogen 3299 QR clamp and plate with the Sprint Pro and wouldn't use a tripod without a QR.

interesting. my dad just bought a d100. im interested to use it. im trying to get back into the darkroom, so i might not be around much either. good luck on your search. try not to go canon if you can help it. (note: im kidding about this). remember its not a megapixel war, there are other aspects to consider.

Reading the info on this tripod, it just stated that it included a ball head. I don't think that the head can be change. The tripod include a ball head, case, and a 3 year warranty. I will know for sure when I get the tripod, in a day or two as Monday was a holiday.
