D2h wedding and studio work

Does anyone have wedding or studio portraits to post from their D2h? I am considering the camera and would like to see what it can produce in this genre. I know the camera was not intended for this purpose but it is a camera and may be good enough. I am inpressed with the speed, color rendition, i-ttl, AF and build. Resolution is lower but still looks damn good for 4mp. What sizes are you guys succesfully blowing these up to for prints if anyone is doing it?
 
Both above were shot in compressed NEF and enlarged to full A3 superbly; I never have a need to go bigger than this with this type of camera - I have medium format gear for this but haven't used it since the D2H arrived I'm that impressed with the camera!

I to had concerns about 4.1 mp but no longer; I just laugh at people who want more resolution and never print bigger than A4.
 
The pics look great! I think your conclusion is what I was thinking all along. If anyone has wedding work done with the D2h I would love to see it. Please post!
 
i posted this on another thread, but here goes again. the camera is superb in all respects for wedding photography save one. it's a noisy little beast. though i have not shot a wedding with it yet, i cringe when i picture myself at the altar shooting away in quiet moments and this baby sounds like a door closing. maybe i'm exaggerating a bit, but i would like to hear other thoughts on the noise (that is sound) issue with the d2h.

If you think the D2H is loud try the D1X. It can wake the dead in comparison

I don't find the shutter/mirror loud at all but then I'm used to an FE2 and Medium format.

I also have not found any real noise problems-the camera produces images very similar to film, which is what I like. YOU WILL LOVE THIS CAMERA; don't be put off by negative posts from techno freaks and people that like to talk specs rather than take pictures; just hold one and fall in love :-)
 
I used to shoot an RB67 tripod mounted from (generally) balconies in the church during the wedding....

Talk about noise.....kerrrrrchunk!!! Even winding the thing was loud!!

The Hassy is not much better, so IMO that D2H, would be heaven....

Here is one shot right after i got my D2H. It works well in the studio IMO. I have a wedding this weekend I will be using it instead of the D1X!

I used to use the manual wind from the back of churches in weddings, because the motor sound would make everyone turn and look. It had a recoil like a 9mm semi auto, rock and roll.

I suppose I miss the E10 for the opposite reasons, everone complained about the noise, but I thought it was pretty quiet.

Hang on, are we talking image noise or audible?

The RB67 was and still is a superb piece of machine. That model has served the portrait wedding photographers for decades. I had two of them over the years, first just the RB67 then the Pro S. With the prism that sucker was a brute. The shutter/mirror noise was certainly distinct. Mine just had the crank so for every shot I made two rather loud sounds. First with the mirror rising and shutter opening and closing then cocking the shutter/mirror. Great images it made to.

Alas, I sold that baby for a pittance to purchase my D100 a year and a half ago.

I have never looked back. Well, with nostalgia

Hi Nik

I'm looking at getting a D2H but the res does worry me being a bird photographer. It's usually a case of having to crop the images some what in order to get the best out of the images. The 8fps and excellent auto focus does make me want to buy one but I'm worried after cropping the images, there will be just not enough left to print sharp pics at A4.

I'm currently using a Fuji S2 and with the massive 4256x2848 there plenty of scope with the pics. I just feel it will be a big let down with only 4MP
Any advice would be much appreciated?

I hear what you are saying about cropping and then being able to make an A4 size print. I would really like to hear from a pro that has atleast tried to do this. It would be nice to hear from a perspective of could you sell the print to a customer. A lot of times these forum post go beyond ridiculous and could tell the Pope he is not Holy enough. I want to know if it will work for an application period not everything after that.

If anyone has portraits and or wedding work done with the D2h please post.

Could I ask if you have had any problems with WB or color cast? The sports shooters are complaining about these issues. Thanks.

hi

well after using the d2h for 2 month now i have to say im quite happy with it. i mainly use it for studio work and there are some problems. (i shoot sports too, that´s why the d2h was my choice)

wb: i started using the manual kelvin settings because when using flash wb + studio flashes the colors aren´t right. way too warm.

also when shooting indoors you have to use the kelvin settings because the pre set modes dont seem to produce satisfying results.

colors: way too much red. tried all settings, low contrast, hugh? hue? (is it called like this?? to -9) still the colors are not right.

now the camera constantly underexposes 1,5 stops and there is nothing i can do, except use the camera in spot metering mode to get exposure right. weird. i will call nikon today to find out.

what still amazes me is how much detail you get from the 4mp camera....

I haven't tried doing much cropping of the D2H images, but I can tell you they interpolate in PS very well. I had an S2 and always felt that the images had a digital look to them, the pixels seemed to be evident even in 4X6 prints, they didn't look smooth to me.

The prints off the D2H are so smooth, like a film print. The viewfinder, the autofocus and the heft of the camera are all reasons to sell that S2 and get on board with the D2H.
