Once again! Please Phil, split this forum..

Now that the D70 will shortly hit the streets and the D2X is going
to be announced very soon, I think it's high time to split this
forum into two seperate forums: D1/D2 series forum and
D100/D70/D100X(whatever?) forum. It's not the first time I'm
raizing this appeal to Phil Askey but IMHO now is the time. What do
you think?

No split........just because I shoot with a D1x doesn't mean that I am a better photographer than one with a less expensive body......

I am of the opinion that I can learn from anyone, and I have learn greatly from owners of less expensive cameras.........

I prefer to browse the titles of posts and read the ones that I deam usable to myself..... I can very easily skip the ones irrelevant to me......

This forum has degraded into a dump and run gallery for peoples pets, bird and holiday snaps

As a D1X user I find more useful info over on the Canon 1D / 1Ds forum - hard to believe but it's right.

I would definately support a Pro Nikon dSLR area - not necessarily governed by camera type but certainly by content.

If the camera and or subject doesn't interest someone in particular, then they can easily pass over it, and go on to the next. Also, if ppl would kindly give the most basic of information when posting pics, such as ISO, shutter speed, Aperture preference, and f-stop, that alone would prevent the inevitable followup questions regarding that stuff. That's something I see repeated over and over again.

Speaking of streamlining the board for ease of use and most "bang for the buck", if you will, I really wish ppl would snip out all the previous post, except where it's pertinent to the followup.

Also, putting your reply ON TOP of the old message would also streamline the reading of subsequent post, as we wouldn't have to scroll all the way down to the BOTTOM of a sometimes long ar$se thread just to see "Nice pic" at the bottom. Those three changes alone would help us read what's important to us, and what's not, by 1000%! As long as I'm preaching, how 'bout ppl kindly remove the "nt" from the subject line, in followup messages, when in fact there IS text inside. It only takes a little time to do it right. In other words, don't be so lazy when posting, and it'll make this board run much, much smoother!

I hear what you're saying, man. Why do ppl always use the word "then" instead of "than". Why don't ppl use commas more often? With their run-on sentences, lacking any useful punctuation, it's hard to figure out where to pause while reading it. Sometimes I find myself having to go back an re-read the sentence to make sense of it. Of course, no one's gonna change, but we can always hope ;

My former boss just blew $35,000 on the new Hasselblad with the high end digital back and several lenses, and another bunch of money on a D1x and five lenses. He'd belong in the d1x group, right? He's never owned a camera before other than an APS point and shoot camera. I guess he's the kind of guy you're looking for, right, Bear? You two would learn a lot from each other.

what you own doesn't make what you say valuable.

some of the best shooters, with the best images, are shooting with d100 and d1h. funny, but i find myself pretty unimpressed by a lot of images posted by d1x shooters. perhaps this is because so many more people have bought d100 and d1h, and therefore I see more work by people who own those cameras.

i've thought about where you'd draw the line with film cams, to see if there's an analogy there. At the f100? which'd leave out a huge number of the working pros I know who carry n80. At N80? Yeah, Galen Rowell didn't know much about cameras, did he?

If you're around the forum and active, pretty quickly you pay attention to the people who know what they're talking about, and don't pay attention to those who don't. I can reel off a couple dozen names of people who I actually look for in posts on this forum. Couldn't tell you what kind of cameras they own.

Such elitest snobbery belongs in the Canon fora, not here.

and true too often. the guy who had me close his company and then let myself go is now asking me for free advice on how to use his gear.

just because you've got the money to buy the top of the line doesn't mean you know what you're doing. I had a great time as an instructor at the ferrari club events running down the 400 horsepower $200K cars in my 200 horsepower $30K car...

If Nikon only sold D1x and D2x to pro photogs, they'd be out of business. 99% of them are bought by schmoes like us. the only reason i don't own a d1x is because i found the d100 plus some large and medium format gear got me a better working set of tools.
. . . and coming under the category of "I wish I'd said that."

The point isn't about experience or talent as a shooter. The point is about equipment. It doesn't matter wether you have all the money in the world or hardly any. If you have a D100 and want information about a D100, a forum dedicated to the D100 would aim your questions and posts directly at those for whom it's intended. If you think that a bunch of untalented, clueless people own D1x's, just wait until the D70 hits the market. "Uninformed" will take on a whole new meaning. Why make the rest of us suffer through that?

TyKo

unless the traffic warrents otherwise.

I love to contribute and help out those in need. I try and get to know my equipment the best I can and experiment with new things. I also like to try and keep abreast with new(er) models and such.

I am currently starting out pro, and if I bought a D2x (?) then I would have to visit the D2x forum and the D100 forum? Can you guess where I would spend most of my time? I also have several sony cameras and frequent the STF, but I dont contribute nearly as much there because I dont spend much time there.

I know that I am not as knowlegeable as many on this forum, but I post anyways. I feel more comfortable posting because I know that if i am mistaken, someone will come along and correct and/or add to the discussion. This fact makes is what makes this forum such a great resource. The few times I checked the 300D forum, I saw lots of newbies teaching newbies. I'm not saying that they are wrong, and I learned quite a bit from them. But I did notice some threads where none of the responses were completely accurate (well at least for the time I was in the forum)

I dont know how many there are out there like me, but my gut feeling is that the newbies would loose a lot of good advise from more seasoned users (notice I said users - nothing to do with professional or hobbiest).

Just my 02.

It's DSLR or Point & Shoot that's the difference. Not how much you spent on the thing. Should there be a forum for the people who bought the $24,000 1 megapixel camera way back when?
