I've had all I can take.

Every other thread here is someone bashing the 828. Well you've completely ruined STF and the DP Review forums for me. You win. I'm out of here. I can't deal with your hateful negativity any more. It's a camera that has nasty PF in some conditions, and therefore you decide to destroy a forum and a community over it. What the h*ll is wrong with you people?

All of you who delight in trashing Sony, the 828, 2/3" sensors, and anyone who uses an 828, congratulations to you. You beat me.

Phil Askey, if you read this message, the trash needs to be taken out.

I hear ya Matthew, I think I will go on vacation too. I have another forum I have started going to that is not camera specific and it is a lot more pleasant.

Been disqualified once, now working on getting banned ;-)

Matthew,

I know how you're feeling. I hope you return soon (better yet don't go). It will be a shame if the negatives drive out folks like yourself who tried to make positive contributions.

your reading the wrong threads, sure it's a little worse than when the 707 and 717 came out but it'll go away. and theres still a lot of interesting things to read here from interesting people. don't get all worked up over the non issues people are making issues out of. Your stuff has always been very cool too, i've been to your galleries you have nothing that needs to be defended and it would be a shame to lose you

I'm as much to blame for this as the next person, although I've tried to be as objective as possible.

I'm sorry if I've caused distress to you and others. As mentioned in a previous post, I've promised to stop with my negative comments.

I hope you will decide to stay. You're a valuable member of this forum and you have a lot to offer people here.

Matthew,

I'm just a new user, but I've had enough as well. It's just too hard to pick and choose between the constructive posts and the anti-social ones. I love my 828, but can do without all the people who feel the need to focus on the negatives. I think it makes them feel better about themselves or their choices; sad really. "Anti-social" is the only way I can describe it, couldn't imagine what the world would be like if people interacted this way in person.

From what I've see over the last week the forum will definately be worse off without you.

Matthew,

Take a rest from the forum for a while if they're getting to you.

You'd be a loss to the greater STF community if you were to go.

Just because you can't stand seeing the 828's problems being discussed doesn't mean they don't exist, and leaving won't make those problems go away.

It's not like people are making this up, the 828 has issues and it's no secret. Forums like this are what puts pressure on Sony to make things better. I was here back in the day when all of us F707 owners were seeing BFS (blue flash syndrome) and we thought there was no hope of a Sony fix because their firmware wasn't upgradeable by the end user. Well, people start organizing calls to Sony and posting their serial numbers trying to figure out a pattern...finally enough bad press here and lo and behold, Sony offers free shipping both ways for owners to get their firmware replaced.

Thank goodness for this forum, and for people who complain loudly and insist on quality. It's your best hope of getting Sony's attention. And that is a good thing...don't you realize that?

You are accomplished enough you might never need the help, support, and knowledge base this forum has in the past provided in abundance, but please consider the huge gap you and folks like you, with such talent and ability, will leave.

I know you're not getting anything now but a hard way to go, but you might not see the considerable amount you give, or how much it is appreciated. I know you provide it out of the kindness of your heart and good nature, and you don't deserve to have to fight every day.

But

If all reason and moderation vanish, the house that you and several others built will dissolve into a breeding ground for unchallenged misinformation and negativity.

I don't think the churn will last; I'm hoping the good stays around, weathers out the storm, and continues to lead by unimpeachable example.

Waaaugh...the 828 has issues and people won't stop complaining, so I'm taking my ball and going home!

Man alive, people, get a grip. I want Sony to address the 828's issues with a fix if possible, and the only way they will do that is if enough people complain! Complaining isn't always a bad thing, even if it hurts your feelings a little to see your brand new $1000 camera get bashed for a while.

Don't defend the 828 to the point that you're willing to ignore or accept it's flaws at the expense of possibly getting them fixed. Don't think it can happen? It happened before when Sony reluctantly recalled the F707 to fix the BFS that was discovered and posted about in this very forum.

If there is any hope at all that Sony might be able to minimize these issues with a fix, then people complaining in this forum is the best chance 828 owners have of that happening.

Todd,

There's a difference between doing something constructive as opposed to incessant bashing. We can discuss the issues of the 828 all we want but lets also acknowledge its strong points.

Unhappy 828 users should return their 828s after writing a letter to Sony letting them know their feelings. Folks who were going to buy the 828 but aren't now should write to Sony to let them know why they have lost a sale. 828 owners who are keeping their 828s but want some of the issues addressed should also contact Sony. Thats constructive.

is if enough people complain! Complaining isn't always a bad
thing, even if it hurts your feelings a little to see your brand

Then do something constructive, bashing the camera at every opportunity and trying to convert everyone to your personal view won't do it.

As of the time of my posting this...there are 9, count em 9(!!!) threads on THE FIRST PAGE ALONE, Dedicated to disparaging the 828 and basically trumpeting why XXX user won't buy it.

The problem isn't the criticsm.....its that people feel the need to make sure EVERYONE HERE KNOWS that THEY aren't buying the camera. So the make their own thread, and CLUTTER UP the forum.

BTW--I have dual citizenship here at STF AND CTF. BUt this need to drown the forum in negativity is really out of hand....

Posting in forums like the STF is extremely influential and probably does more good than writing a letter that probably won't get to the right person anyway. Just like respectfully complaining to the Circuit City manager when other customers are around is probably much more effective than writing him a letter.

I really don't think you can say that the STF isn't an appropriate forum for discussing criticisms or complaints about the 828, or that it's not constructive. As has been stated elsewhere, Sony is aware in a general sense of what goes on here at DPReview. I think it's perfectly valid for people to collect their experiences here in the hope that Sony is listening.

-Todd

You just don't get it do you? This forum isn't about 828 or Sony. This is a community for Sony camera users. Do you get the difference?

This is the place to share and construct. Not a place to complain or bash. What Matthew meant is the latter has been occuring too much.

You want to complain? Email Sony, or call them. Stop whining here. This is just not the place.

You don't like Sony camera? Fine. Get another camera and hang around in your camera forum.

That doesn't mean that you can't complain here or dislike a particular camera, just do it once then get over it. Don't need to stress it out anytime you can. And even worse, those bashing comes from people who don't even own the camera.

Just now someone posted a topic about how he's happy on his first day with his 828, and guess one of the replies he gets: "Wait a few more days." And that comes from a Canonite.

Then Andy posts a very good thread about 828 tips, and what's one of the reply? "You shouldn't get the camera in the first place." What the hell is wrong with these people for Christ's sake??

There I said it. I've been very quite about my feelings but can't take it anymore. So flame away... (I can already predict who's going to flame this post).

Maybe you weren't here back then, but this isn't new. It's just like when the F707 first came out. Sony recalled that camera after customers organized their complaints. We'll see what happens this time around.

the 828 CA threads have kept coming and, while the first several were eye-opening, the 101st one does not add much other than negativity.
