Dont kid yourselves Phil Askey is not the be all and end all of digital camera reviews he got it so wrong with the Canon D60...this was and is a shocking camera and he awarded it a "Highly Recomended". I bought two of them and they were both KACK, bad focus, soft as old boots and very erratic exposures. Both went back to the shop. My F828 out performes the D60 hands down. Due to the weather in rainy old Scotland I have not had a chance to put my 828 through its paces but so far I remain delighted. Just for a few cinics out there I took some pics with the 828 and the Canon G5 as a side by side comparison. The picture looking into my desk lamp which is as overexposed as you can expect shows no sign of the dreaded purple fringing.

What ever makes you feel better. Good luck!

I am sorry you found the D60 too difficult to use, by going back to the 828 you have shown that your choices in regards to cameras is not very good.

Having said that it sounds to me that you are better suited to the prosumer style of camera so the 828 is a better choice than a DSLR for you.

It's just a pity that you had to back the wrong horse,so I can understand your defensive attitude.

If he had given the 828 a glowing review he would have been the be all and end all! The bottom line is that you have two different types of reviews: the hand-waving subjective type and the hardcore, can't weasle out of the measurements, type. Guess which one Phil does? No amount of wishful thinking will change the data.

As for the D60, your comments about it indicate rather clearly that a DSLR of any type is not for you. To get the better images you have to understand photography at more than a point-and-shoot level. That's not an insult, it's just that some people are wasting their money with a DSLR. The D60 really does produce vastly superior images than the 828 and other consumer-level cameras but you have to be willing to do the learning.

I could take this camera back tomorrow its less than a week old but why should I be so stupid... the idiots who are damming this camera dont own one and therefore should shut up...! I think most of you wanted this camera to be the SLR substitute you all crave for...cant afford the SLR hoped the $950 Sony would let you do cheap weddings....well the last laugh is on you...get a life you moaning gits.

I have owned more SLRs and digital cameras than you have had fish suppers, I have used cameras for over 25 years and use top end digital video cameras to produce a living thank you...the Canon D60 is flawed,

like it or not, I get the hint you bought one of these well we all saw how quick Canon were to give us the 10D...even the 300D out performs the D60 and dont give me the old learning TOSH the D60 has a focusing problem when used with a variaty of lenses including Canons own.

You would be stupid if you kept it.

Bight the bullet and admit you made a mistake, then go back and have a serious look at what is available to suit your needs and don't be swayed by the sales person if they look like they only do the job on the side to make money to feed a drug habit.................good luck.

.. but, sadly, PF is clearly evident as bleeds into the dark contrast areas in the cloud pictures

What's the likilhood of this being corrected in later serial numbers?

Was going to 'upgrade' on Monday, and am now having doubts....

Sorry buddy, I started out with cameras back in the days before meters were built-in (giving up my age here). The D60 as well as the D30 did a wonderful job in the hands of people who had a clue.

Sorry pal but I dont get your sarcasm...so you've got a 10D and SD9 but you dont seem to work as a professional photographer...I on the other hand work with professional digital media from filming, photographing, editing and desk top publishing..sorry about your RED FACE.

Funny! Only those who made the mistake of buying it can comment on it? Let's see, I don't commit murder so I shouldn't have anything to say about people who do?

The CAN-afford SLR is here at the same price as the 828 that doesn't cut it. You know what that SLR is!
well the last laugh is on you...get a life you
moaning gits.
Insults! I was wondering how long it would take once you realized that your position could not be defended.

Bottom line: the 828 is overpriced for what you get. That is the real issue here. At $500-$600 it would be a different story.

I dont photograph to order and I have already explained why I have not used my 828 as much as I would like to...do you have any pics worth a look. This is not a HOW GOOD ARE YOURS discussion but a defence of a very worthwhile tool that many of us who dont give a hoot if Mr Askey likes or dislikes...if you go by his word you will NEVER BUY A DIGITAL CAMERA. I am sorry but perfection as it stands today in this field costs money...Sony never claimed this would be the holy grail of digital cameras but the moaning face, green as cheese, never happy brigade as usual shout the loudest and the old lemmings follow on as usual.

My few 828 pics are on pbase.

Very nice photos. But note that they are all shot at ISO 64 and still exhibit noise in the shadows. The quality of the photos is there IN SPITE OF the camera, not because of it. A good photographer can can exhibit a great eye using a disposable from the supermarket. But this says nothing wonderful about the camera itself.

I've seen your page, and I think the dogs are more comfortable wit G5
aar
Woof to you to..LOL Lets not kid ourselves I use a digital photo camera professionally 40% and family (Dogs included) 60%. Most of you are amateurs which is me 60% of my time so why get your knickers in a twist you either buy an F828 and are verry happy or wait for 2005 super dooper looper model with 16 MP 20-300 F1.4 lens and no noise.
