Andy's Day in Times Square

he looks good, doesn't he? i really like to make a still photograph into a "moving picture"

i experiment with this a lot. why not? film's free ;)

thanks for the kind words!
I too would really like to see what the settings were for this shot.

The entire world seems to be moving around him, as he is frozen in
his task at hand.....what a great effect!

Thanks,

Rob

Thanks Harry,

You and Andy made my day! This is what it's all about! Those shots of Andy in front of the jumbotron are priceless! As usual, thanks for sharing this fun day!!!!

HI all,

Met Andy in Manhattan and we did some shooting. We also get real
wet, we had a bit of weather today. I'll have more to say later and
some other pics but the main event was ---- Andy's POTD on the
Kodak Jumbotron in Times Square.

The reason Andy's hands were up in the air was because he was being
mugged

his POTD

The truth is that Andy was covered in a purple glow that I removed
in PS.

yeah Andy again but what the heck it was his day

Congratulations Andy, a nice guy & fun to shoot with.

I love New York City. I've only been there twice. Once in 1999 when we stayed at the Marriott Marquee in Times Square and again in 2000 and I stayed in some swanky hotel that my company put me up in...

The second trip was quick and all work, but the first was for a week long trade show that I only had to loosely attend. So Dawn came with along with the wife of a colleague. I've never walked around so much in a city (well, not counting Europe) in my life. We hoofed it everywhere (including some places that we probably shouldn't have been gulp ), took in some shows, did the Tavern on the Green thing, carraige ride, a lot of the typical tourist stuff. But we also just walked around and went into places we thought looked fun (umm... maybe too many of those, haha). I loved waking early and going for a run through Central Park. Such a vibrant and fun city to visit. I've always said I'd love to Manhattan for a year or so, just to experience it.

But I wasn't "into" photography" then. Sure, I took some pictures, but it's so different now. I've been trying to get back for an extended road trip for about a year, but it just hasn't worked out timewise, kidwise (we ain't takin' 'em), and moneywise.... It would be so fun to go up and down the NE to visit a few STFers... Andy, Shay, Camera Slug (Boston), Fremiet (D.C.) (I'm talking about a real road trip here, btw), and any others that would care to visit....

Anyway... my disappointment. Harry is moving. :-(

hey Jim,

The first thing you have to get straight is if you do get out to NYC we don't do Cheerios for lunch. Do that cheerios for lunch thing in NYC and we might have to deport you. :-)

My new home is going to be only an hour from Orlando. If your kids haven't been to Disney World yet (its mandatory, I think its in the Constitution) you'll have a cheap place to stay (not free but I have very reasonable rates).

Have a good one.

I have been inspired and encouraged by yours and Andys wonderful photos of New York.
I look forward to seeing more of your photos in the STF.

I would appreciate your thoughts on my recent attempts at street photography in Christchurch, New Zealand.

hey gang, the best part of the day was when harry
was shooting some of these shots, it was pouring rain - and i'm
in the middle of the street, harry's at the curb, i've got one eye
on poor harry dripping wet, one eye one our gear, and what happens?
several new yorkers come up to harry and cover him with their
umbrellas so that his nikon won't get soaked by the rain! only in
new york, kids, only in new york.
New York, New York, is it everything they say! Great story to go with the picture.

thanks kg, for stopping by, and the kind words!

we had a great day...and i'm looking forward to more ;>
First of all, Thank You, for allowing us all to be there with you
and Andy via your photographs.

Secondly, I think the photos would have been improved had you used
Andy's F828 instead of that old toy of yours. Maybe next time you
will use "the real" camera instead. (hehehe)

Once again, thanks for sharing for those of us who had to work and
could not be there ourselves.

Andy,

I guess your arms are tired ? I could tell from the smile on your
face that you enjoyed yourself today, despite the rain. Every
person on the STF board probably dreams of, one day, doing what you
did today.

Here's wishing your new year gets better and better each day - but
I have NO IDEA how you will ever top this.
