>>> - Challenge 45 - The Electric Connection - <<<

Pops,

That is not what the uploading instructions say, but you could be correct. They say you can load them in .zip batches.

Bill
On another matter, when I try to upload a .zip file to my gallery,
it isn't getting received--doesn't show up. It does show it with
blue line going all the way to 100% then it grinds away for about
15 minutes, but never shows up?? It is about 6.5 mb, zipped.
Suggestions about what I am doing wrong.
Bill,

I believe that PBase will accept uploads of graphic files only. By
sending it a zip file PBase receives it but does not know what to
do with the file.

If you're trying to send multiple images at one time, that just
won't work. You'll have to upload the images one at a time.

Of cousre, it's been a long time since I've played with PBase for
anything other than the challenges. I could be wrong.

I was looking forward to seeing more work from Bryden this time around. Any chance we'll see some, Gayle?

Challenge 45: The Electric Connection

For this challenge I want to you take pictures of anything electric.

Broadly speaking, that’s anything that uses electric, such as
household appliances, stereos etc; carries electric such as wires
and cables; or generates electric such as power stations, dynamo or
wind turbine.

You may have some other clever and cunning idea of how to represent
electric. I just want you to present an image that has an obvious
Electric connection.

If you choose to do something a little outside the box then great.
The topic is merely a seed for your imagination. But ultimately,
the voters will decide if your electric connection is good or not
good enough to be on topic. Have fun.

Steve, thanks for asking. No, not this time....but almost definitely in the next challenge or the one after that.

The camera she used for her first entries wasn't hers.....I was road testing it for work one weekend and gave it to her to try out. Because we were considering selling that particular model, I wanted to see how easy it was for a child to use. She loved it, so I have got one put away for her for Xmas which she knows about......and she's been trying her best to get me to give it to her early......her reason being "But mum, I HAVE to take photos for the challenge!" LOL!

So I expect, come December 25, we'll have another enthusiastic regular participant, at least in the exhibition category.

I'm not sure I would have found the CTF Challenges if it were not for it being posted in Canon Talk.

Dorys
http://www.pbase.com/slackjeep
Your idea has it's merits...but then a lot of our new entrants come
about by reading the challenge thread when they are browsing CTF
for info on their new camera. By moving all the challenge threads
to a single forum, it might mean that no one would look there, and
we'd see a decline in the amount of new entrants.

Gayle
My thought was not to have a single DPReview.com challenge. As ISO
pointed out there are lots of non-camera challenges available
elsewhere.

I was thinking more of a forum area where each make would run their
own challenge. It would host our CTF Challenge, the STF Challenge,
the Oly Challenge etc. It would clear us away from the clutter of
battery threads and camera threads and focus us on challenge
threads.

Our challenge wouldn't change at all. Just the thread would get
posted on a challenge exclusive forum.

What is negative space? Iso has left a comment about this on someones photo. Is it something I need to know about and will it improve my photography skills? Is it a phrase I can use to sound knowledgeable? Do tell, please :-)

Gayle
Negative space = a large area of the picture that has nothing in it. Usually just a large slab of colour (as in my stuff - Switch and things like that). The picture you're referring to has all the elements at the bottom of the picture. The remaing sky is the negative space.

The picture has now been edited so the negative space I remarked on is not there anymore. That may be why you couldn't get the gist of it :-)

I think I may have commented. I'm not sure though. I dont' recall which shots went with which names. I'm NOT the queen of remembering names! LOL!

Our favourite new word is "isopic".....pronounced eye-sew-pick, and it means any photo that is modelled after one taken by iso3200. At least one appears in each challenge, and it's become a mini-challenge in itself to get the funniest isopic entered.
I think maybe our word will make it into a dictionary one day ;-)

Right now, I shoot with a humble A70.....don't laugh, it's a good little camera and I've won a few challenges with it (and beaten the 10D's etc). But I have a 300D ordered at a local camera store....but it seems theres an Australia-wide shortage of them. They assure me I'll have it by Xmas.....I am starting to have my doubts.

I saw your snow photos, they are lovely. It doesn't snow here, ever but I am fascinated by how people live in snow. How do you drive a car on a road covered with snow? How do you walk on a footpath? Isn't it slippery? How do the kids go outside and play? It would be very cold for them. When it gets really cold here, my kids pop a light jacket on to go outside.

It's another hot one here today.....at 9.15am it's 35C, and I am in an air conditioned office for the day.

Hello Lonnit! This one is the most fun of all!
Yeah, I see that! Too bad I missed it.
new lighting systems and have the cutest little puppy as our
mascot. You can see him in the eligible category.
I saw him - he's indeed a cutie! I'm huge on inventing new words...
I used to be queen of the sniglets! LOL! Haven't done many lately
though.
Did you notice I dropped a few pics into the CSLR exhibition
category?
No one has commented on them yet.....hahaha, I don't
suppose anyones even looked at them.
I think I may have commented. I'm not sure though. I dont' recall
which shots went with which names. I'm NOT the queen of remembering
names! LOL!
in the water for when I get my 300D (if it ever arrives....sigh).
What do you shoot with.
Welcome to the CTF challenge.....you've got about 2 hours to get
some electric pics into the galleries.
Yes, I see that. I'm waiting to see if the password arrives in
time. :)

Lonnit

If someone wants to start the voting booth thread at 0.00GMT feel free as I have to turn in for the night now.

Gayle, it would seem as it's only 9.15am where you are, and you're so obviously not wanting to do any work today, maybe you'll be first in line to do it. :-)

I'd be happy to do it :-)

It's not that I don't wanna do any work, there's simply none to do. Way too quiet here right now! Wanna buy a computer? Need one repaired? Maybe I could sell you a printer? scanner? dvd burner? hard drive? internet time?

My boss is sitting with his feet up reading a trade magazine.....I read it yesterday. Maybe I'll go make coffee......again!

Well, I managed to disover that I had 3 shots that fit the theme for the exhibition gallery. Imagine my surprise to discover I even had one for Eligible! I couldn't stand the thought of this cool challenge happening without me having an opportunity to join the fun! So now I'm here and I've got my feet wet. :)

I hope you like my entries. All comments are welcome. I particularly appreciate comments that will help me become a better photographer, so any ideas or input that you might have to improve the shot are more than welcome. :)
