What's the smallest footprint ILC camera from Fuji?

I can't always lug around a FF ML or stuff like that, sometimes I would like to have something which just fits in a pocked or slightly smaller, either a short range zoom or a wise aperture prime ideally a FF equivalent to 28 and 50mm, viewfinder mandatory, 16-24MP and back button AF if possible, anything in the Fuji range which can be found without to have to steal off a bank?

Grazie

p.s. I will ask the same question in the Sony forum :-D

In current production? That eliminates the X-E4, which otherwise might be the answer. Maybe there will be an X-E5. Otherwise, I think it will be one of the cameras with the "reflex" hump, but I'm not up on which of them is still in production.

For travel, I went to a MFT system, mostly because of the wide choice in pancake lenses, even pancake zooms.

My X-E3 is small. My X-T1 may be considered small.

I suppose X-T20, X-T30 and X-T50, which I don’t own, are small.

For definite “smallest” comparisons, you can always try the “camera size” websites.

I suggest you look in the used markets for X-E3 and X-E4.

You mentioned Sony… Last summer, I roamed Spain and southern France with an a7C.

Also, my recent checks showed that the RX100 VII are back in stock. The RX100 VA is usually in stock.

You’re looking at either an X100, or an X-E3 or X-E4 with the 27mm or maybe the 18mm f/2 or the 15-45. And you probably have bigger pockets than I do 🙂

There's no APSC ILC with a VF that fits in a pocket. You have to give up the pocket thing or give up something else, like VF or interchangeability. The XT30ii, XT50, XS10, and XS20 are the closest, or used XE series. Personally I like the X-T100.

My smallest one is the X-M1-- long discontinued, but a very fun camera to use with one of the 27mm pancakes.

Right now Fujifilm has no available camera with either now viewfinder or a rangefinder design. These were once the smallest in the system. There was X-A7, X-E4 and in much older times X-M1.

Right now the smallest is either -T50 or X-S20. But according to rumors there shall be a X-M5, basically a X-S20 without viewfinder still this year.

I'd like to buy used, I shoot Nikon and that's my target for new bodies and lenses, I use FF cameras and lenses which makes no sense to buy a DX Nikon body when I still have to use FF lenses, I used to have, still have anzi, an X-Pro1, a dinosaur but the size was ok and with the 35/1.4 got me great emotions while I was not a fond fan of the 18-55.

The X-E series I don't like, even the Pro was not the greatest build but ok, pocketable of course is impossible, I have an old Panasonic LX100 which is pocketable but nowhere the quality and snappiness I need, I don't mind a little bigger but snappy but not the size of my Z6II

smallest with a viewfinder would be either X-E3 or X-E4. X-T30 is less wide (2/3mm less) but has the viewfinder hump that adds height.

If you're okay with a 35mm equivalent, the X100 is going to have a slightly smaller footprint still, but it's not an ILC.

The X-A line are smaller but they have no EVF.

In Sony, the smallest with a viewfinder is going to be the A6000.

X-E3 pictured with the 18mm f/2, (28mm equiv) other Fujis have the 27mm f/2.8 (40mm equiv)

Sony is with the 20mm f/2.8 (30mm equivalent)

If you can find a used X-E4 with the 27mm f2.8 pancake....

That's as small as it gets!

Build quality was always great with Fujifilm (had also Nikon and can't complain)

The XF10 is a brilliant extremely small camera with 24mp apsc sensor but no viewfinder.

The smallest APS-C ILC I know about is the old Nex 5100, which is little more than a lens mount and an EVF; very small. The newer A6100 is a bit bigger and tons better, and the A6400 is nearly the same except for being metal instead of plastic and with a better EVF. Either one - A6100 or A6400 - has a smaller footprint than the X100 series.

Unfortunately, the Sony pancake lenses are just awful. The kit lens is little better than a body cap. The best E mount pancake I've found is the ttartisans 27mm f/2.8.

Did you look at Sony 20mm 2.8 pancake? I think its great.

If you like a 28mm fixed lens compact camera with aps-c sensor there are a few options that exist like Ricoh GR, Nikon coolpix A and Fujifilm x70 and xf10.

Personally I went with with xf10.

I use both FF (Sony) and APSC (Fuji) and for anything really small, I would advise either the Sony RX100VI/VII (or Canon G5X II or Panasonic LX10) or the Ricoh GRIIIx. Personally I use the Sony RX100VI both during my business trips but also during the holidays and cant praise it enough!! This little "monster" can handle everything from landscape to portraits, street, night photography and close ups! With the current denoise technology, small sensor is no more a handicap and its CAF/Face AF is top (better than XT5!!!).

Here are some recent samples from Lesvos summer holidays:

X100V or X100VI might be the solution, even if not technically ILC, but they have converters that thansform the focal length with no IQ degradation

They have an equivalent 35mm lens, and the WCL converter transforms it into a 28mm lens, and is very small and light

With the X100VI 40MP sensor you can zoom digitally to 50mm with no problems.
The TCL which transforms the lens into a 50mm is light but not so small

My personal light travel kit is
> X100VI > WCL 28mm converter
> ring+filter to make the X100 weather resistant
> 2nd battery + cable + small telephone charger

-> less than 850 grams measured
I find that weight impressively small considering what can be done with this kit

This is the Fujifilm forum but I have been thinking about your requirements for a hot minute...

Do you have any reason not to go micro 4/3? They have some really small cameras in there that will combine small size with decent quality and small lenses.

you could do a Lumix GM5 + 14mm f/2.5 + 20mm f/1.7

Or if you don't want to pay those prices you could get the same lenses with a GX80/GX85, if you're okay with a camera that size of an X-E3/4

Before Fujifilm I had micro 4/3 and even a GM1.

The problem is that all small mft cameras are already pretty old and because the are not available new the used ones are rare and expensive.

mft is getting bigger and bigger with cameras like the Panasonic G9 having the same body as the FF Panasonic S5II.

mft in this case Panasonic an Olympus/OM-Systems forgot where they came from.

Agreed. They should go back to their roots and release small cameras again (small lenses too)

If you're okay with older cameras, it's a great system. I recently picked up an Olympus E-M5 mark II, great camera at a great price nowadays.

I should add that a camera like a GX80 can be bought for about 300€ used, which is much less than the 700€ I'd need to gather for an X-E3, or the 1000€+ I'd need to get for an X-E4. A decently recent GX9 is around 500 to 600€ lightly used.

And both of them have features like IBIS which might prove more useful than a little bit more dynamic range.

Apparently so — being polite here.

Even if one accepts the size increase, one cannot purchase a latest-release model.
