Tonight I was practicing shots of the moon with the Zfc, and I could not get niether the monitor nor the viewfinder to change the exposure shown live by adjusting in manual exposure mode the aperture and shutter. My D7500 monitor in live view can do this. Can the Zfc viewfinder/monitor be adjusted to do this? If not, I will use the D7500 for the eclipse tomorrow night.

My Z50 displays definitely change as I change the camera settings.

It does per the other replies. For stars, flash, and sports photography you may want to leave it off. The camera is smart enough to work some magic and improve focusing performance. The other option is to increase ISO or use a custom picture control (while shooting RAW) to improve contrast which improves focusing. I generally run my viewfinder/monitor brightness at -3 as well. It matches what I see when I load images up at home.

I think you'll be fine leaving it on for the moon though. I snagged this handheld with my nearly identical Z50.

IMO, some of the best features of mirrorless (live view, silent, EFCS, battery life) have some compromises that still need to be worked out. At least you have newer firmare than I do with the Zfc. ;) Good luck!

I was aware of this setting and I thought I had it on last night, but it seemed not to work. I turned it off. This morning after reading your post, I turned it back on, and lo and behold, it now works. I can make the finder or monitor completely dark with manual settings at 1/4000/F22.

Anyway, I will play with the settings some more. If I can't get the Zfc to work right, the D7500 is ready for the eclipse tonight.

Thanks!
