OM-1 RRS modular camera plate

So, I can confirm the camera plate for the EM1.2 and EM1.3 does not fit the OM-1. I emailed RRS to see if they had one in development and they said they would probably make a version but currently they are gauging the demand for one. I really hope they release one soon. The fit and finish of the EM1.2/3 version is so good that it looks like part of the camera itself. And it's got some cool features. I cannot imagine using the camera without one.

So if you're like me and you want one, please express your interest here.

Alternatively, if RRS decides not to make one, does anyone know if another brand is developing a full camera plate similar to RRS? I just want a full base plate, it doesn't need to be an L- plate.

Two or three weeks ago there was a short thread on this forum about exactly the same thing. The thread prompted a few of us to email RRS requesting a baseplate and L-bracket for the OM-1. I received the same response you did. Hopefully they will produce a baseplate and L-bracket (I would like both) for the OM-1 because, as you noted, the fit and finish for the one they produced for the Mark II and III was perfect.

I've had two: one on my original M5MkI and on my M1MKIII. NOBODY does it better. I'd bet they'll get one on the market, but given all the supply chain issues, it may take awhile.

I am definitely interested. I have a RRS L Plate on my EM1m2 all the time. So if they make a plate for OM1 i will buy one. I prefer a plate with full base, especially if as nicely machined and with such a great fit as is the case with RRS.

Alternatively, if RRS decides not to make one, does anyone know if another brand is developing a full camera plate similar to RRS? I just want a full base plate, it doesn't need to be an L- plate.

I only know if plates that cover the base partially to allow access to the battery compartment.

We buy dozens of RRS L-brackets for our equipment and leave them on continuously. I asked our distributer if he could get some for the OM-1's we ordered. I also contacted RRS directly to inquire. Received a very courteous reply stating they will likely produce an OM-1 bracket given the demand.

Yes, I also enquired the same of RRS about 2 weeks ago and they gave me a similar answer, which I then posted in another thread. I am hopeful, because I think that theirs are the best or at least tied for the best out there…and there aren’t many of these type which are custom designed to precisely fit specific bodies.

By now I have had 2 of theirs, my last one being for both my EM1.2 and EM1.3. Well designed and manufactured, fits perfectly with the user of those specific cameras in mind. And I appreciate the inclusion of the hex key which is magnetically stored under the bottom plate.

I am not aware of any other base plate that covered the grip like RRS. It has been permanently attached to my E-M1ii for the past 4 years

I know, and why I got the Promaster version on my Mk3.... but going around the battery door completely is what the manufacturers are gonna have to cast, and why they aren't so quick to do it, especially on OM cameras

You CAN take the L portion off with an allen wrench... but it still won't fit an OM-1

That is a nice touch, but for me the features I appreciate the most is the modularity of the plate and the integrated QD socket.

If you don't have time to wait for the upcoming new RRS plate for the OM-1, you may have an alternative solution here:

If you have a sanding machine and a Dremel tool at hand, it it quite easy to modify a RRS OMD-M1 Mk2 to fit the new OM-1 body: 1) Sand down the excess top rim to level with the main floor, including grinding away the positioning pin; 2) use a 2.3mm drill steel to refit a new positioning pin (use the very same 2.3mm drill steel and cut off at 4mm height, yellow arrow); 3) make 3 small dents to fit with the four miniature feet on the corner rim of the OM-1 body (red arrows - the 4th (top left) have the same position as for the Em1 Mk2 body); 4) repaint.

And now you also may use your favorite hand strap on OM-1!






Note that you will need to take the plate off when changing batteries.
