Poll: Will F828 be a hit or a dud?

Whoops. Sorry. :-)

I know that this is a real point of mention for each of us. So we probably each accidentally overlooked your smiley. :-)

Happy shooting!
Doh... "Photographer is irrelevant" was a joke, hence the smiley in
my post...

Some interesting points about relationship of photographer and
camera in the replies though.

Hahahahahahahah... yeah! Just like that! :-)
Semanticky, do you mean like:

If a tree falls in the forest, does water roll off a duck's back :-)

Oh darn here comes Shay to zap this post with that weapon...

LOL. Sorry, but this is funny to me. Who cares if the 300D is doing good right now. Who cares if the 828 bombs or sells well. There is no last laugh here. It's interesting to see which camera sells well, but it has no bearing on the camera I want. Either the tool works for you or it doesn't. : ) If the 300D sold just 1 camera, I'd still buy it for the money right now.

Neat Image is great software for low detail shots, but try Neat Image with a detailed sand castle. Oh, and how long does it take for each image to be processed? I would hate to have done that will all 1200 images on my last trip. And noise is dead info. It's non detail. So use Neat Image to give the illusion of a clean image, but it's lost detail. period.

Both cameras are great. Pick the one that works for you. Let other people waste their time laughing. I'll be the one taking the picture of the laugher. : )

What do you think its about 1 month until the 828 is released will
it be a hit or a dud? Or maybe no better then a 7x7

I think it will be the best in its class. How much better then the 717? I don't know. But it will be better, in my opinion.

I have absolutely no idea what that means in the context of the thread. :-)

However, the main problem is this: The camera isn't here for us to examine yet.
The main problem with 828 is that it wasn’t designed to be a great
camera, it was designed to be a camera with great specs (on paper).

Those aren't just irrelevant specs. They are features that will increase the quality and flexibility of the camera, and allow people to take better pictures. I have no doubt it will be a great camera. The only question is how many other great cameras it will have to compete with.

The 4 color CCD alone would be a compelling feature for me, if it works as advertised. And all indications are that it does.

Even if the F828 is the best prosumer camera out in the market, for every F828 sold, there will be ten U30/50 sold, so it will never measure up in terms of volume.

The Secret to Life is... Calcium!!

HeHeHe! That's very symbolic. I do have Neat Image (still waiting for the release of the Mac version) but from reports that I have read, including the one on Luminous Landscape, it's currently the best noise reduction software available, and it was even recommended for the "noisy" 14-megapixel full-frame sensor Kodak dSLR. According to that report, the loss of detail is very minimal or insignificant. So at least there is a solution for noise the problem.

DAKK,

Did you fail Logic 101 in school? I really didn't think anyone could really be that silly. Since you have such insight in design, you should have your brains checked out and see if it was put together according to specs. You can always trade it in for something that works. ;-)

Life is just a stage and we all have enough pictures to proof it!

I wonder how many people buying the Rebel realize it's de-featured? Unless you're comparing it directly to the 10D, it might not be obvious.

Still, different things appeal to different people. Two years ago, before I owned a digital camera, I aspired to a DSLR because I thought that SLR defined the dividing point between "real" and "toy" cameras. Now I know better of course, but I'll bet the world is full of people with the same misconception.
Somehow I suspect a plastic-bodied de-featured 10D Rebel is to some
extent "settling" and not "heart's desire".

The ONLY spec that may turn out to be more of a hype or gimmick could be the 4c CCD - we don't know and we won't know until someone is able to do comprehensive tests.

All the other features in the camera are for real ... the 8 megapixel resolution, the RAW+JPEG mode, the dual memory cards, the magnesium alloy body, the T* coated lens, the live histogram, the live white balance, the live preview, the high transfer speed, the high bit rate, the faster start time, the shorter lag time, the IR capability, the movie clip, the swivel back, the higher EVF and LCD resolution, the advanced hot shoe, the spot metering, the manual modes/overrides, etc, etc. None of these features are fake or worthless.

The noise issue has been blown out of proportion. Even the 14-megapixel full-frame-sensor Kodak dSLR is noisy ... but you CAN reduce the noise with Neat Image. If your camera does not have important functions like the spot metering, manual override, a solid/durable body, live histogram/preview, swivelling monitor, etc. you are screwed ... as they don't make softwares for these.

I was out shooting with a friend who used a 10D, and he was constantly frustrated by the fact that he cannot preview the effect of the different white balance settings ... and he ended up shooting blindly and trying every white balance setting that he had on the camera ... hoping for the best.
If you are just looking at the specs and features.
