Anyone have experience with BOTH lenses or can point me to online comparisons? I've found a few reviews of the 14mm but a real-world comparison of the two seems impossible to find. Until recently I thought I'd go for the 14mm but now I'm not so sure.

The F2.8 on the 14mm is not a clincher for me, maybe it would be if it were F2. On the other hand, I do slightly favour primes and the 14mm is a lighter lens which is always a plus for me. The 10-24 zoom is clearly more flexible and has OIS...

Oh yeah, I shoot only stills!

I have both.

Started with the 14mm and then bought the 10-24mm thinking I'd sell the 14mm.

I've kept both, but feel that the 14mm is optically better than the 10-24mm at 14mm. I think there are some comparisons on the web that give the advantage to the 14mm, especially edge to edge.

However outside of sharpness, the 14mm gives just a nicer rendition all round. Tough as to which I would prefer because they sort of have different uses. Practical vs IQ.

What do you shoot? That might have an impact on your decision.

I shot this on the 14mm

I also have both, started with 14. . . I agree, the XF 14 has the edge, but there's always a conflict between that and the zoom (what's most appropriate at the moment). For wide field astro the 10-24 loses, but for night street it's a toss up (OIS may compensate for the f/4)

I did a quick google search on "XF 10-24 vs" and got a page of hits that include the 14mm. . .

Fuji vs. Fuji has a pretty comprehensive comparison of the 10-24 to the wide-angle primes: https://www.fujivsfuji.com/10-24mm-f4-vs-primes. There are also a number of threads here and on Fred Miranda on this topic. The general consensus seems to be that the 10-24 is very sharp in the center from f/4, but doesn't match the 14mm in the corners until f/11 or so.

A biased response from me. I don't use extreme wide even when I had the lenses (on Nikon). However, my most used prime is the 14mm f2.8, even now when I also added the 16mm f1.4. If I lost the 16mm I'd have to get over it but If I lost the 14mm I'd sell the 16 to buy another 14mm f2.8. IQ wise it is better in my opinion than the zoom, but of course the zoom can go wider if that's your thing.

I have owned both 14 and 10-14 but I sold my 14 because I use my Fuji system a lot for travel photography and it is just more convenient to have a zoom, plus the OIS is excellent on the 10-24 and it is plenty sharp enough when you stop down and sharpen in post processing. I also tend to prefer zooms for WA work tbh.

I'd agree the 10-24mm would be a great travel lens.

I think it really depends on people's practical use for these two lenses. Both are great

Optical limits has tested both in their own lab. Both get "highly recommended" stars - they DO NOT give such ratings to every lens. BOTH have high optical quality - there is no point in comparing that. Compare usability and your personal need.

I have a 10-24 and i can not complain the sharpness ! And the lens is very portable, has OIS and 10-24 range is very good for many uses - landscapes and indoors for example. For me it is a perfect traveling lens with 18-55.

Handheld shot in a darkish place:

10mm was the only sensible FL - no zooming with my feet was possible

And landscape

composition with a zoom is easier...

I started SLR photography in 1968, first DSLR was Canon 40D in 2007. Now Fujifilm X-E3 is my favourite traveling camera - also NEW! 5DMkIV for landscapes, BIF/nature .

I had the 14mm, sold it for the 10-24 and then went back to the 14. My copy of the 10-24 was sharp in the center third of the frame and quite soft outside at all focal lengths and apertures. I think I had a lemon. I got a 14 again and am very pleased with the sharpness across the frame. It would be nice to have the variable focal lengths with equivalent quality.

I don’t think I was being too fussy with the zoom, since I am generally content with the 18-55 and 55-200 zooms.

Seems like we’re in the minority, but I agree. I had both and sold the 14. I take the 10-24 on hiking trips and appreciate the versatility. The 14mm is light, but I found it wasn’t always wide enough. I also use the 10-24 for some handheld video in tight spaces, but that’s not a concern for OP.

One can not replace the other, they serve different purposes. Choose according to your priorities.

Thanks. And here I thought I was an excellent googler!

I have the 10-24mm

According to Lenstip reviews the 10-24mm in the 10-17mm range is slightly better in res

I read this same link, and based on that I decided to buy the 14mm to use as a lightweight travel alternative to my 10-24mm, so I had both to compare for a period. Unfortunately, while they were very close, the 14mm could never match to 10-24mm at 14mm in the extreme corners. This seemed opposite to the finding in the Fuji vs Fuji article, so I sold that one and tried another, and had a similar result. I ended up returning that one too, and I’ve since given up on the 14mm. Also, my new 8-16/2.8 is stellar at 14mm - it’s as if it contains the 14/2.8 prime inside it :-)

My thought is the 14mm is an excellent lens, but there is definitely some sample variation or decentered copies around so be careful.

I only have the 14mm f2.8 and love it. I've used it for shorring northern lights several times. I've often thought of getting a 10-24 for landscapes and perhaps even night landscapes or aurora but it is f4 versus f2.8. Perhaps I should get a Samyang 12mm f2

Here's the 14mm in action

I had thought about it as well but I hear there is quite a significant bit of sample variation with the Samyang/Rokinons and I just don't want that headache.
