Picture of the day on DPC !!!

That's a great shot. Congratulations, and you certainly deserve the POTD.

I am just curious -- how did you get so much dynamic range in the pic? YOu have great detail in the foreground and maintained detail in the sky. Did you combine 2 exposures? Use two developments of the same RAW? Or is that just one pic? It looks so natu

Any secrets you wish to share would be most appreciated. And whatever you did, great job!

Congratulations !

Thank you all for your kind comments.

On the technical side, it is only one exposure at 1/2 s at f22 at 28mm taken just before the sunset, facing east. The mountains on the west cast the long shadow, while the clouds still have the direct, although diffused sunlight. I don't remember wether I used sigma 15-30 or Canon 28-135mm. There was very little post processing because the foreground rocks were the same color and brightness as a subject.

I did, however, use my Photographic Filters plugin to apply graduated ND to the sky (I'm not trying to sell it here, same can be done in Photoshop) to balance the sky to the foreground.

Mono Lake is an incredible place, and if you can afford (timewise) to spend couple of days there, by all means do. I would love to go there again when it snows...

Thank you again,

-Miro

Yes, yes, yes, absolutely. Wait for the time of the month when the moon is full. Moonrise on this lake is just incredible.

If you need more info, let me know.

Congratulations Miro on your first win of many at DPC. Your's is also the first win there that I have seen taken with the formations framing the photo.
