The EM1 is an Amazing Camera...

I love my EM1, The EM1 + 12-40F28 Combo is an amazing combo which I take everywhere and the quality of Images are good enough for me considering the ease of carrying them around.

Posting a few pics from last year. They are all from the EM1









































All that being said, I am very open to other Systems too and I am under no illusion that M43 is the optimal system for everyone. For now I am waiting for the (used) EM1 II / G9 prices to come down further while also keeping an eye on the Sony A7 III



I respect a lot of posters in this forum who have great educated thoughts on M43 systems as well as other people who have good thoughts about Full Frame Systems too and how it compares to a M43 system. I gain a lot of insights by that. How ever what really bothers me is that a few of the members here seem very sensitive to people with a differing opinion. Too often and too quick a few members label them as Trolls when all they are doing is providing counter argument and thoughts. A discussion can only be complete if we hear multiple sides of the topic else it is not a discussion at all.

I'm also four years into the EM-1 I and concur on how great a camera and system it is for me in hiking where weight matters. For me to upgrade I would need to perceive that I will benefit. The two things I would gain that might matter to me are the improved AF if I were to get into BIF and the new FE adjustment. Otherwise the image quality still works for me.

Love the pictures and the post. Looking at your images, I'm not sure that an A7iii would necessarily give you a lot extra.

Have you thought about a used A7R with a Loxia 21mm and Sony 28mm as a complementary kit? Or the A7R2 would be better than the A7iii.

That’s my go to combo as well. No plans to upgrade especially since I have a little less than two years left on my extended warranty.

I did notice a EM1.2 refurb for only $1,499 on the Olympus website the other day so prices are coming down - as expected after the first year. I suspect I will hold out for the mark iii in a few years since the mark ii does not have enough IQ improvement to justify an upgrade.

Gorgeous shots, thanks. Been wondering if the 12-40 was the go to lens, seems it might be. I use the 12-60 43 oly, great lens too but getting old and tired, not to mention big with the adapter. I wonder if I'd miss the 60 end, tough one.

Just get the 12-40! Great lens and you could satisfy you telephoto needs with the 75, or the Panny 35-100 if you wanted more versatility/

That's exactly my thinking too. This is supposed to be a discussion forum, after all, not a fan club.

But I'm not very tempted by the A7 III. The only thing it would offer to me is improved base ISO DR, and I don't run out of DR very often with my E-M1. A7R II or III are a lot more tempting, at least until I check lens prices (and sizes!).

If you like the 12-60 oly, PL 12-60 could be just the right lens for you.

I enjoy the 12-40 a bit more though, for the manual clutch and very close min focus distance. Very handy for semi macro work

Yes, it is a discussion forum. Its called Micro Four Thirds Talk. Now, to me, that suggests that most of it members will be fans of the Micro Four Thirds platform. They chose to spend their hard-earned cash on it after all!

I enjoy reading many of the threads on this forum.

What I don't enjoy quite as much is when someone posts to say something great about the camera they have spent money on and folks dive in and offer not constructive comments, but merely criticism of the platform. If I wanted to find out about any other platform, I would hop over to that forum and ask my questions.

But I'm not very tempted by the A7 III. The only thing it would offer to me is improved base ISO DR, and I don't run out of DR very often with my E-M1. A7R II or III are a lot more tempting, at least until I check lens prices (and sizes!).

I had the 12-60 but sold it three years ago because it started to develop problems. Initially I was missing the 60 but I have not in the last two years. I have learned how to use the 40 better. 12-40 is a great lens and it stay on my E-M1 most of the times and being wide open at 2.8. The 12-40 is slightly smaller, shorter but no adapter.

Beautiful photos, I enjoyed the processing and subject matter. And for what it's worth, I agree with your opinion. We're all photography enthusiasts before we're µ4/3 users; we come to this forum specifically because it's what we shoot with, but it shouldn't mean that our discussion must be limited to positive things about our system of choice. (I understand the point from those who don't want to see needlessly negative things repeated over and over, though.)

We're obviously reading differently. I am not seeing much criticism of the system, if any at all. I'm only seeing criticism of false claims made by die-hard MFT users.

I'm a double system user and I can't deny that my Nikon gear offers obvious advantages over my MFT gear. That doesn't mean that I see MFT as a lesser system. In fact, I'm almost exclusively using MFT these days. Why? Because one day I found out that an unproportionate amount of my favourite pictures were taken with MFT. And because I find that MFT is more fun to use (and a lot more fun to carry when I'm hiking).

I don't know that there are many who do. I certainly don't. I am happy with my system.

It is a different system, with different strengths and weaknesses.

And that's pretty much why I chose it.

At the end of the day, this is a MFT forum. People say it is full of fanboys. I say it's full of MFT enthusiasts. But I would expect that, given that it is their choice of system.

Yes, sometimes there is a need to correct a misconception that any of us may have (goes for everyone regardless of what system they are using).

What upsets folk is when people post in a superior manner with aggressive language that often becomes personal. (And we all may occasionally fall into that trap from time to time, I would say!)

So, for me, it is not often what is being said but the way it is said that causes upset.

A few years ago, in my professional life, myself and my senior leadership team started to place more emphasis on, not just what we do, but how we do it, how we talk and relate to people, how we consult and communicate. Generally, people are open to discussion and debate much more when it is managed in a polite and respectful context.
