Why I Bought A Used D800e Over The D850...

As long as it does what you want, no need to spend anymore.

Yes! It really isn't always essential to have the latest and greatest. If you want the latest and greatest, that is a good thing too.

All these things to make everyone happy whatever their budget and desires!

I could say the same as you, but instead I purchased a 10 year old medium format digital back. I knew a new Nikon camera was going to be announced but I had a chance to buy a digital back for my Hasselblad camera for a lot less money than what the new camera (D850) would cost. It has almost half the pixels of the D850, is slower than the D850, doesn't do anything close as to what the D850 is able to do, but you know, I'm completely satisfied with the results and I'm happy with the purchase. I like the idea I can say I purchased a $30,000 digital back, even though that was how much it cost 10 years (or more) ago.

The d800 or d800e are still incredible values for the $$$$. Unless you need the faster af or touch screen then the d800 make the best bang for the buck for high MP cameras

Enjoy! I plan to use my mine until it dies!

Great camera!

...Because I'm cheap!!!

Seriously, though, I do like my 'new' camera...

Lol. I am too. I am using my D610, but it has good shutter activations, now a bit worried about its longevity re shutter crapping out, so looking around eyeing what is available as a second camera / backup.

I am grateful for the wonderful D850, because it has brought all other used prices down.

My eyes are on a particular older model camera.... nice prices now on excellent condition ones. ... way down from new.

Will get when I have the chance.

Ha, I love new camera releases!

I second that -- writing from the rainy pacific northwest. Really itching to get out there for birds and long exposure landscapes.

And, FWIW, I am very satisfied with a D800, D810 and a D500. More camera than I can honestly use.

A long time ago I was taking a class in DBMSs (data base management systems) and the instructor describe the then super powerful IBM IMS system as being "able to do everything, and you have to!" That is sort of the way I have viewed the D850 which can do everything. But seemingly one has to. From what I have read there does not appear to be easy ways to get the benefits of the 45MP images while doing it simply in, for example, program mode.
