Genuine Battery Grip for D500

I ordered a Meike today . Should arrive tomorrow ( Amazon Prime ) I will not get much chance to play with it though , just check it works correctly and see if it takes my DSTE EN-EL18A battery OK . I am away for a few weeks ( not with my D500 this trip ) But will give a quick reply on Sunday or Monday.

Genuine Nikon MB D17 grip for £359,- UK price> which is about €402.95 included taxes.

Not so bad as we in Europe always pay more.

The button on the grip is assignable. I set mine to spot metering just as a trial thing

My Wabasi battery reads in the menu so it's something lacking in the DSTE but probably not a big deal to you

Not sure about how many shots with the DSTE battery as I have never run out on a day shoot. But it would certainly be in excess of 500 on my D810.

I have not done a longer shoot with that battery in as I tend to only use for it Day long shoots.

I will be buying another one now I know it fits into the Mieke Grip. ( Need to be carful fitting it though as it is a tight fit. ) I have to buy another anyway as I have somehow lost the charger for the Battery :-( Only have the car charger left and that is not that useful. The batteries come with a charger. ( US plug though, but that is not a real issue )

They will get a lot of use later next year or possibly 2018 as we are making plans for a 4/5 week trip back to Africa and charging batteries can be a challenge in the bush. :-)

Also I checked T O Shooters info about the customisable extra button and he is correct. I can customise that button via the MD-17 button options in the camera settings.

Cheers thanks for that.

Update on purchase of Meike battery grip.

It arrived a few days ago and unfortunately had to be returned. AF-ON button was not comfortable to use having to be pressed very firmly to activate leading to thumb strain. It would have become very taxing over an extended shooting period. Also, AF tracking was ever so slightly delayed using the AF-ON button.

Fit on camera was good and other functions appeared to work well.

As I already wrote, I only buy the real Nikon gear.......one gets what one pays for .........

Griddi.....

I got the Nikon one and it works very well. Am using it with EN EL18a, fantastic grip and worth the price.

I have a Meike for my D500. I really like it. I feel it's as good as my D810 OEM Nikon grip and my previous D700 Nikon grip. And my recommendation doesn't come with "for the price"

I had a DSTE for my D7100 and that had some flex in it. A fellow with the DSTE for the D500 said he had flex in his too. The Meike does not and I've been shooting it with an 80-400 AFS G, a 300 2.8VR and a 500 f4 VR.

While the Meike doesn't have the big battery option like the DSTE, I have bought an original Nikon BL-5 end cap and a Wasabi EN-EL18 battery and it works perfect. For some reason the original Nikon one won't work. The Meike also has the large metal plate inside at the tripod mount that looks identical to the one in my 810 grip. All controls work perfect.

i had a Pixel for my D750, but the battery tray didn't fit as flush as the Meike one. Not really a problem, and the only small gripe I had about the Pixel

I no longer need a grip as can't go out much, If had to buy grip it forsure would be an OEM one as I never had one fail on me.

Perhaps Nikon should look into how many grips there are sold for the D300(S) and D500 and look into selling a body with build in vertical grip as their next flagship DX body. Most D500 shooters I know use a grip, just like when they had the D300.
Both Nikon and Canon reserve this for their pro bodies only.
