300 f4 IS pro (Pelicans in flight)

Just a few Pelicans high above the water in flight.

Some were captured during smokey days due to back burning in the mountains west of Sydney so I got some interesting colours on some from the smoke between the sun and the Pelicans.

Thought id'e try some new angles too even thou that can be risky if you read or looked at the photo's my previous posts ;-)

Yes, that's great photography. I have this lens on order from B&H but it's taking forever to get it. I have thought about canceling and getting the more available PL 100-400mm but every time I do a set of these Oly shots is posted here and I keep waiting.

I wonder whether the superb detail this lens produces is primarily from the less compromising design of a good prime or just the fact that the shutter speed and iso settings can be improved with larger glass.

Any thoughts? gp

I would wait now.

Those things help a little but most important thing is the focus and keeping that bird in the viewfinder. The lens focuses great for me anyway.
If you want to see them in better quality go to my flickr as dpr is so and so with uploaded images. I should probably attach some 100% crops from some of the images later if I get a chance. I don't even use my raws to upload here or flickr just the jpegs with some very quick pp in ps. I can get more out of them using raw

Thanks, was pushing focus to get them both sharp
Normally I would stop down but because they were far enough it worked well

I just posted some of my first attempts at using the L 100 - 400.

Went to http://eol.org/pages/1048600/details and suspect that the less visually striking pelican of the formation pair might be a juvenile.
