Car People: I Got a New Car

Nice ride.
I too am shopping a new car, the VW GTI.
Nice cars - I always enjoy driving the GTIs. We have lots of VW and Audi owners down here, and I have run a very large get-together for owners, so I've driven just about everything in VW's corporate stable, at least anything they offer in the U.S.!

Good luck - hope you get a good deal and what you want.

AWD in Florida?!?
Oh yeah! It rains down here - A LOT! Wet traction is a very big deal for me - I tend to drive a lot and often aggressively (when it's safe and others aren't around) - so the ability to drift through long bends or accelerate at full throttle off the line in pouring rain is something that's become all-too-addictive for me. My last 4 cars in a row have been AWD, and I don't think I'd ever want to buy anything else anymore.

Beautiful car, Justin! I have also only had Volkswagen and Audi all my life (maybe more naturally for me since I am German). This one will be perfect if you also need to drive on dirt roads from time to time. Though, dirt is quite visible on black....
Indeed - black is quite a handful to keep clean. But it looks so good when it is. I don't mind if it gets a little dirty - I'll just have to clean it off when I get home. It can be useful for when I head out to some of the western wetlands areas where often the best spots to park off trail are dirt roads and often with mud and puddles. I was able to get down those roads with my previous AWD cars, but being lower to the ground, I had to go pretty slow as I was scraping bottom on occasion. The extra 2 inches of ground clearance here should help!

Very nice, although I don't envy you having to look after that black paint.
I know - I've had two previous black cars - after owning them, I always say I want something lighter, and then a few cars later, I find myself tempted back to black again!

I've always liked Audi's but have never owned one.

It looks very low for an AllRoad, I initially thought it was a normal A4/A6 wagon. What engine has it got?
The difference between this and the A4 wagon is about 2 inches of extra ground clearance...and the allroad does have skid and scuff plates underneath. It's also wider than the A4 wagon - the flared fenders allow for a 2-3 inch wider track.

The engine is the newer generation 2.0 turbo - 220HP, 258Lb torque, running through an 8-speed tiptronic transmission. The quattro system is full time AWD - running 40% front/60% rear, and transferring up to 100% of the power to either axle or wheel as needed if traction starts to go.

As always, beautifully photographed.

Congrats, Justin, and may the joy of the car have you go out and take even more photos for us all to enjoy!!

Jon

Does DPR even have a forum for cars?

Maybe they should expand.

Nice ride! Any chance a stick shift ? Stick shifts are pretty rare with the dealers, most times I think you have to place a special order.

This post is for the .01% who care about cars - gearheads such as myself. I don't have any 'artistic' photos yet, but took a few shots on the way back from the wetlands. Those who follow me know I've been a VW guy for a long time - 4 in a row over the past 15 years. Some may also know me as a wagon fan, having had two out of those last 4 be wagons - the last time I was hunting for a car, I couldn't find a wagon in my price range with good power, sport packages, AWD, and all the luxury toys, as wagons are very very scarce on the American market...so I went with a sedan last time. Well, 3 1/2 years on, I was hunting around for a new car again, and this weekend while out test driving and shopping, I came upon a car that fit just what I really love - a wagon, with AWD, sport package (bolstered seats, adjustable suspension, paddle-shifters), all the tech and lux toys, and a decent powerplant. Unfortunately it was about $10,000 over my budget - but finding out they had some room to clear out 2015 models and were willing to deal, we set to work finding out if the price could work out, including getting the right trade value for my VW CC.

And so Saturday evening, I drove home in my new car! Got the price exactly where my last car was ($8K off the sticker!) and got full high book for my car on trade ($22K) to use as the down payment - end up with the exact same monthly payment I had previously (finance, not lease). Said so long to my 2013 VW CC VR6 4motion Executive sedan, and hello to my new 2015 Audi Allroad Premium Plus Quattro - back to the long-roof wagon style again!:

That is one of the (if not THE) best looking and riding wagons built today IMO. I have owned wagon looking vehicles for my last 3 cars. Although I did look at the Allroad Quattro last year when I was in the market, I settled for my third Subaru Forester in a row. I think you will find the Allroad so much more versatile than your 2013 VR6 4motion, you may always own a 4 door hatchback from now on. The other great feature is the 'Fish Bowl' viability the Allroad has, it makes if very easy and safe to drive. Having AWD has come in very handy for me in the past as I'm sure it will for you, even in Florida! Below was my last Forester, I don't put my kayak in my newer 2014 anymore.

It's nice to be able to throw all your gear in and take off to anywhere you want to go.

Not as nice as your Audi Allroad, but a very practical ride, at least it was the Turbo XT model. I like these style vehicles and will always own something similar. I trade in my car in every ~8 years or so (purchase only), I don't lease cars either. BTW, the new GTI 2015 with much improved engine, 4 door hatch back is a great little car, #1 in it's class, it was not out last year when I was in the market or I might have got it instead :-(

Enjoy your new ride, it looks like a great wagon and I know you will love driving it for many years to come!

Then I should upload a (low res) image of my new Audi too: a black(yes) 2015 S3. After modding, it produces 350hp, and runs about 3.9sec now, using launch control.

Next year is my goal, hopefully I can find some great deals then.
The GTI is a sweet ride. Not interested in the R?

I was thinking of getting a VW diesel. I hear they are very clean running.

Na, don't need the AWD and it is just a bit too much $$$ for me.

Congratulations. Always nice to have a new car. What engine? BTW, I'd leave the wheels at standard issue if I were you.

Can't say that I like the front styling; the grille looks very heavy, and indeed, the engine position does make Audis rather nose-heavy. Quattro will help.

I've never been sold on diesel. In Australia, it used to be the way you advertised that you couldn't afford proper fuel. The argument with diesels is that they offer "more torque" but the enthusiasts forget that it is delivered at low RPM and has to be "diluted" by appropriate gearing before it hits the road.

I think that it's now known as "DIE-SELL" at VW headquarters. :-D

Give me a decent petrol engine any day. My 350Z used to pull well from 1500 to 7500 RPM.

Nice car.. always had respect for the Audi range although right now , as you may well have heard .. the VW range both here in UK and in Europe generally have suffered something of a blow with the flare-up over the codged Emissions readout etc and I believe it's going to cost them a bomb to sort that out and deal with all the required conversions and corrections.

My Daughter meanwhile was searching around for a replacement for her last faithful and was really lucky to come across this one. I just had brief chance to grab a quick shot whilst she was calling on a very quick visit to us ...

I don't understand first-world, commodity fetishism, especially car fetishism. I supposed books have been written to attempt to explain it.

I drive a 17-year-old Honda CRV that came with a pre-dented hood. It starts when i turn the key, stops when i step on the gas, turns when i move the steering wheel. It holds a lot of stuff. It gets 25+ miles/gallon. It's starting to rust, so i'll have to get something else soon.

I fail to see how this OP is relevant in this forum.

Bring on the hate.

Have you had it tuned lately? Using the correct pedal?

We all have different priorities. I have a fairly new Nissan Maxima (sort of a poor man's Audi), and it has a host of safety features and electronic assistance. More than just transport.

Have to agree to a slight extent.. but after all..the post does include photos and isn't that what the Forums are all about.. the specifics of them are an extra which maybe should be restrained a little.. but after all..your post did include it to some extent too ..

By Golly..there's quite enough..MORE than enough...rubbish and flam on the Forums these days so anything a bit more natural maybe can be accepted gracefully...

Nice S4 Henry. Those are quick indeed! I'll probably be doing a mild mod on my allroad - likely APR stage 1 and maybe a downpipe - I'll leave exhaust stock. Should boost me up about 35-40HP which will be enough to make it quick but still civil enough as a business car and commuter.

I actually was thinking of the R myself. Aside from very hard availability right now, and needing months to order one, they also were just a wee bit too small overall - decent cargo room with seats down, passenger room about the same as the allroad with seats up - but it's the seats up AND cargo space combo I needed.
