The Nexus 5 is Google's showcase smartphone for 2013 and made by Korean manufacturer LG. The device comes with a 4.95-inch, 1920 x 1080 display, Snapdragon 800 processor and a 2,300mAH battery, Google claims the Nexus 5 can handle up to 17 hours of talk time.

For photographers, the Nexus 5 does not exactly stand out from the competition. Its 8MP camera looks an awful lot like the Nexus 4 camera, and compared to the pixel-packing competition, the Nexus 5 falls a little short at first glance. Google's main selling point of the Nexus 5 camera is optical image stabilization .

Our review

The Nexus 5 is a high-end Android phone that sells for the price of a mid-range model off-contract. In terms of camera quality, it delivers solid images. Its Achilles heel is the lagginess of its poorly designed camera app. That said, mobile photographers who don’t need the most responsive camera and buy off-contract will find an excellent value in the Nexus 5.
