Does Your Brand of Camera Define You?

Wasn't there a neil holms or some other mispelling as well?
Despite his many reincarnations, Macro just can't seem to escape his past. As a result, Macro has developed a persecution complex.

Macro doesn't need to escape anything, bc macro isn't hiding. Macro discussed his new A77 + 30mm macro + Minolta 50mm when he was posting under Neil-H, then again when he started macro. If somebody is hiding, they don't leave a trail like that.

Why do I not care? BC I don't value a silly screen name, I can make a thousand more. I promise you this won't be my last ;-)

An obvious question then is why do you need so many accounts?

I would assume it's because you keep getting banned, in which case the follow up question is why do you get banned so much?

I use Olympus m43s, and I'm not a huge man, but I'm smart and good looking, and I generally produce photos better than people expect me to . . . Hummm! maybe it does . . .

And captain obvious asks a question, then captain obvious answers it in his next sentence.

:-D

As I have mentioned what seems to be hundreds of times, it's bc im not afraid to speak my mind, even if others disagree. I just happen to disagree with people who are so immature that they would actually hit a tattle tell button on a public forum. I mean think about that for a minute, grown men and women discussing their personal views, and some of them actually tell on you. Isn't that amazing?

Yes, some of the people who dislike what I say actually have so little pride as to tell on me to the mods, and then I get banned. Again it doesn't matter cuz I just make another, but they must find some solice in the complaint bc they keep doing it. It's really easy to understand from my POV.

I am very vocal with my support for the freedom of speech. Even if others don't like what we say, it's just words. This of course doesn't include things that could purposely hurt others like yelling fire in a theatre when there isn't a fire, but in this context of discussing cameras, each man should be allowed to voice an opinion.

So if nothing else, just to make a point, I will always make another account. Every ban, another account. I refuse to let anybody silence me. Now why they keep trying to do so? You have to ask them, you have to ask them why they are willing to tell on another adult just for typing words. To me that seems like the bigger question.

Ahhh. So it's everyone else's fault. :P

The most insecure people are the ones who demonstrate a compulsive, unremitting urge to switch brands frequently. This is like multiple personality disorder. I shudder at the thought of just how profound the inner restlessness must be to impel this frenetic, nomadic migration from brand to brand.

With each switch, the camera and lenses progressively shrink in price and quality. I call it the "downward drift" syndrome.
The most ironic aspect of your post is even though I know it was directed at me, it carries more weight for Neil as he has used more brands than I have. I do however disagree with your point even as it applies to Neil, some people just like to try out different flavors and are not afraid to spend a few extra dollars to do so. Then again, I doubt you believe your own garbage, it's just a trollish attack on somebody you have a personal grudge against.
Except I actually don't switch brands.

I use more than one......my last camera purchased was a Canon.

I have ADDED cameras to suit my needs as I see fit......in part because I have no issue with other brands.....I LIKE all brands and hope all do well.

Full frame E mount is my choice....once again because it IS FF and it IS mirrorless.

I have not switched brand four times in much less than a year like you have.

My objection is to trolls from some systems, not the systems.

Neither do I, I just buy and sell this or that camera, and still own more than one.

I still own a K5IIs (that is damaged), and a D7k that my son uses. I have only sold two cameras, my 70D and GX7, although even if I sold all of them it wouldn't matter, it doesn't mean I might not revisit those brands at a later time. I still own several pentax lenses as well as my Sony and Nikon glass. Just bc I get rid of a body doesn't mean I abandon that system.

Regardless of what you call the reason, you defend E mount like a lioness defending her cubs.

Ahhh. So it's everyone else's fault. :P
No not everyone, just a select few very soft skinned crybabies who are not ashamed to tell on another man. I would bet my shirt you have hit the complain button more than once ;-)
You can donate your shirt to a nice charity then. I don't want it.

I think it's hilarious that you think you get banned because people don't like your opinion. That's incorrect. It's because you post garbage, that regularly goes against the rules of this site. Your claim as a "fearless defender of free speech" is just you trying to rationalise away the fact that you get banned over and over for being a jerk.

We are just playing semantics. A typical scenario is a new poster asks about "should I buy camera x or A6000". Many people show up to offer their opinions, as well as myself. I tell the OP that E mount is super thin on glass and has x issues compared to other more established systems. Next, said fanboy club show up to badmouth me, as if that discredits what I post.

So you may call this me being a jerk, but what you really mean is you don't like me personally so you don't want me to be able to speak. Well, too bad, keep complaining about a jerk and I'll keep posting. What else are you going to do about it?

Why are people so protective or passionate about a corporate camera brand?
You made an intellectual choice to use a certain brand...by attacking the corporate brand is attacking your intelligence for choosing that brand.

When people who see my work find out I'm using an Olympus, they ask me why I'm not using a Nikon or Canon as if I'm stupid for not using one of those brands, like they have to convert me to their religion!

They can't understand that with my decades of experience including using many larger format cameras that Olympus is the superior choice (for me).
You are assuming that 'they' actually made an intellectual choice, rather than buying what their friend, or the salesman, suggested. :-P

I have used so many cameras commercially over the past 20 years it is easier for me to name the camera manufacturers I haven't worked with: Olympus, Mamiya*,Patrika,Sigma,Minox,Yashica,Sony, Minolta.

I'm what you would call camera agnostic, there is no "one" camera for me. For personal work, I use Leica and Pentax - mainly because of their excellent lenses, and no-nonsense ergonomics. In the studio I work with Nikon, Canon, Leica, Pentax, and hasselblad (with phase one backs) medium format cameras

For me, brand means little: At the end of the day, it is the image that matters. For this reason I work with many cameras because some lenses are only available in a particular mount, it is a well known fact that the canon T/S-E 24mm beats the Nikon equivalent by a considerable margin. However the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G is an excellent lens that Canon doesn't have a native EF mount equivalent for.

*I will admit I have used the mamiya AFD with an excellent Leaf digital back for a week, but to be honest it felt like a rather clunky and awkward camera system to work with. The Leaf back was absolutely brilliant for on-location work.
According to dumbdumbdumb buybuybuy, you are in the "downward drift".
your petty squabble is of no interest to me. Though when dealing with people of less than stellar ethics and morals I have this to say: never wrestle with a pig. you get dirty, but this never bothers the pig, as he enjoys it.

Yes, I appreciate your advice and I will try to internalize it the best I can. As for using many brands, I find it enlightening, it gives me a perspective I wouldn't otherwise have. Even only owning a small portion of any brand, I still do a lot of research on lenses and such, and I have learned a lot about each system bc of it.

I don't know you personally. I just know that you post some truly awful posts, so I'll just enjoy watching you get banned over and over.

Why are people so protective or passionate about a corporate camera brand?
To answer the question in the title:

Yes probably. When I chose a system initially I looked at a number of factors - features available, but also price.. this left me with a close call between two particular models - one of them from one of the big two and one from the pack... I'm quite happy to be out of the majority, so I was happy to go with the one from the pack. Now as it happens, that manufacturer got out of cameras shortly afterwards and passed mount on to a large electronics company who have been running with it ever since - So I didn't actually choose the current corporate camera brand I use, but I have chosen to stay with it. I've also ended up helping to run one of the most respected resources/photo forums for that mount/system.

To answer the question in the post:

Because they don't want to think they made the wrong choice - and that is relatively easy to do because there are very few wrong choices out there - and a lot of good cameras and systems. Where people go too far is in trying to persuade other people that they made the wrong choice, which is part of the reason that photo forums sometimes have such a 'wild west' reputation.

Nope, it's politics, very simple really.

Well I won't suggest what that enjoyment might say about your maturity but I doubt any of it will affect me anyway. Emails are free and DPR has their rules. In fact I do get tired of user names after some time, it's nice to start fresh. And I would again bet that same shirt that my posts bother others more than the occasional ban bothers me :-D

Lol. That's right. Nothing at all to do with your posting style. Fight the power man. It's your moral duty. :P

Ooooh damn. He almost figured it out. Your posts bother others, and you get banned for them. I wonder if it could have anything to do with your posting style.

Nah. Not a chance. It's all about silencing the truth!!! :P
