Hi:

We dedicated the last phase of a war memorial to local air force veterans with an “Honour Wall” with 1405 names of WWII RAF and RCAF veterans from Windsor and Essex County.

The first phase was putting up an exact replica of the Spitfire local pilot Jerry Billing flew on D-Day. Jerry’s health was not good but he was brought over by ambulance to see it and a few weeks later he passed away. He was 93.

Jerry survived 5 months in air battles above Malta, including being shot down twice over the Mediterranean.

For many years he flew a Spitfire in air shows all over the country that the late actor Cliff Robertson bought.

A proud salute to all of them and to you! A wonderful event. That last image is better than any Chaser!

A salute to you and all veterans who keep us all safe and semi free. I hope you had a great time with your wonderful family. You vets don't get 1/4 of the respect you deserve!

A fine series CC! Yes, that last one is definitely a keeper!

Nice pictures and background story to them CC. Let's hope that bravery like this is never forgotten and that we never see any conflict on a similar scale again.

Very Nice and Thank You...

Classic D-Day invasion stripes. I found this website that may be of interest as well as this one (I'm sure there are many more). Without them, we wouldn't have the freedoms and privileges that we all take so much for granted today. A great debt of gratitude is owed to each and every one of them, and taken from the ode of remembrance:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Nuff said.

Cheers,
Ralf

Great milestone George, and well shared as we can see, enjoy, and give a moments reflection in appreciation of sacrifices made.

I do very much hope you have friends around who ensure all your recollections of time in service are documented too. After all is said we do all appreciate a good story. You probably have some of the best.

Cheers and many more happy landings

Right about that.
