Optio S future?

Sure!!

Just producing this amazing camera, Pentax's stock price is almost twice than it was before all this happened!!
So, won't they??
Indeed, Pentax really did an excellent job.

For almost everyone, Optio S is enough to do almost everything you want a camera to bring you.
And, its quality is almost fine to almost everyone's general usage.
The most important one point on the dreamlike camera is its compact and handy.

Having all these advantages combined, Optio S is really doing just fine on those it's been burdened.
Really!! it's good enough for almost everyone's usage on almost everywhere.
In the near future, such as three months to a year. Will Pentax be
releasing an upgraded version of the Optio S?
You see, I would very much like to buy one right this minute, but
am afraif that a newer one will come out very soon. As was the
case when I bought the Canon Powershot G3. The G5 suddenly comes
out of nowwhere.

Maybe nobody knows anything that can help, but if you do, It would
help me. Thanks.
And also if you have any encoureagment for me to buy this camera,
then please give it to me.
Thanks.

Thanks! tHose are the types of comments I like to hear that will encourage me even more to purchase this camera. The only other problem is that I would like to get an SD card with at least 256 MB.
I will probably get one of those on Ebay.

Maybe consider a Sandisk Cruser drive. I picked one up with a 256 card inc from e-cost which ship to canada thru canada post http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=445222 It was about 130 canadian w all fees taxes etc. Handy for when you have multiple cards, low battery etc. Have not compared speed of sandisk to my lexar yet, some claim lexar is faster.

Not sure if they still offer it, but I heard they also have 2 types
of warranties, one that will cover sending it out to be serviced,
the other that will provide an over the counter exchange for same
or something w comparable features. No idea of price.

F. Plant
The warranty I got covers all servicing (parts & labour), and if the camera needs servicing 3 times, FutureShop will give me a brand new OptioS.

I have just purchased the Optio S from Future Shop. It was on sale $20 less. I bargained with the seller and got the $120 three year warranty for $89. I will first give my lawn a cut and then I will test out out this camera. It is incredibly small and looks beutiful!!

Wish me luck in taking photos, and with any luck I will have photos for show on the internet by supper tonight!!

I didn't want to make a whole new thread.

Ok I turned off the start up screen. But is there a way to make it so that the lcd screen doesn't come on when I turn the camera on?

I really did search the manual for quite a while but there doesn't seem to be an index in my manual.

Thanks, Dan

The closest I can get is to turn the display off by pressing the display button several times til it goes black, and have memory of display ticked off in rec mode menu. When the camera turns on it will flash the sreen on, then turn off after (I assume) it loads your preferences. And yes, there is no index.

Ok, ok. I admit I made some harsh comments regarding the dpreview opinion of this camera. I apologize to anyone that took offense to that.

That however does not change the facts about this camera. As small and cool as it is, the image quality is horrible. Take a picture of and color piece of fabric in bright sunlight, look at the picture. You'll see many "excited" pixels that are the wrong color. Take a picture of someone in day light. Find someone with the best complexion you can find. Look at the image, it'll look like they have skin problems. If that's bullsh*t, then i'll eat my words about this small but poor image quality camera.

Actually, the optio will always take bad pictures. And its true you'll always have it with you. But your argument that the canon is big is just plain ignorant. The digital elph series of cameras is anything but big. Admitedly its bigger than the optio, but its not big. If you're buying a camera just because its small, why not save money and get one of those logitech deals? So, you can (try to) insult me personally, even though I am merely stating facts about the optio image quality or you can seriously think about if saving 3 ounces is worth taking horrible images. Personally I'll settle for better image quality with the s400. My optio s will be listed on ebay soon. I'll make sure to reference dpreview in the listing so you can tell someone to bid on it.

My s400 is a brick? You need to eat some more vegetables and lift some weights so you can lift a 6 ounce camera. Get off the couch.
bottom line is the optio takes good pictures and even better then
canon you know why.......the optio s is ALWAYS in your pocket!!
Unlike optio haters brick!
DO NOT EVER BUY AN OPTIO S

These are not unfounded, broad or general. They are very specific and are even documented by this very site. I know you want to think you made the right choice with this camera. And maybe you did make the right choice for yourself. For me, I would rather have acceptable image quality at the expense of carrying a couple of ounces more. Try putting a canon elph in your pocket and checking out the image quality. You'll see that my optio s experience is dead on right.

In your defense, the optio is a wonderful looking camera, and the size and weight and engineering are truly wonderful and deserve to be commended. If pentax releases the optio s2 or something along those lines I'll be sure to check it out. As I said before, I'll sell the canon in a heartbeat if pentax can get the optio image quality up.
Dan,
You simply have a bad camera. Your tirade expresses your experience
but in no way expresses any valuable information about the Optio S.
Your experience and the experience of thousands of other satisfied
Optio S owners differs markedly.

Why don't you just return your camera for an exchange or refund
rather than making these unfounded, broad and general statements
which have no validity outside your own personal experience?

Everything I said is true. Except for the part about the dpreview biased opinions. I have no proof of that and I apologize for posting those accusations. Please look at the image galleries here, and also look at the images the optio s fans are posting. They are of horrible image quality. Go to a retail store and check out the optio next to a canon. The optio is smaller and lighter but not by a significant amount. It may be tempting but factor in the image quality. I'm selling my optio s on ebay. Someone will undoubtedly purchase it for way too much money but it doesn't have to be you.

I have officially apologized for the accusations I made against this site. I have no evidence of any foul play and probably shouldn't have brought that up. My not being a member of this site has nothing to do with my appreciation of it. I used this site to make my other camera purchases such as the canon I own and love and also my newly acquired nikon 4500.

None of that changes the fact that the optio s is a camera that can not generate decent quality images. But I do apologize if i offended anyone, which it sounds like i did.
Everybody has the right to be critical about a camera and the
photos taken by the user. But, what right do you have to make
charges against dpreview? Do you have evidence of this act?

I see that you have been a member for about 8 minutes. Usually not
enough time to say you "love this site". But your member name sums
it all up.

extremely let down because of the obviously faulty review. The
images are horrible. I can't say anymore but I want to.

Actually it isn't, the optio s should be able to print a decent 8x10 but it can't. You can see the pixelation and noise in the print. Upon close scrutiny it can also be detected in 4x6 size prints as well. My disappointment in this camera is meant to help other people make informed decisions. People feeling it necessary to defend the optio should back up their defense with some images. I challenge anyone to show one image that doesn't have horrible noise, fringing, lens distortion or any of the other problems obviously present with this camera.
Yes Canon pictures are better, more detailled, less noisy when
viewed at 100%. But the optio s is enough to take nice pictures and
print photo quality pictures ...

Lin, I notice your website doesn't have any samples from the optio s. My experience actually does provide valuable information about the optio s. Image noise, lens distortion, fringing, poor exposure, slow shot to shot speed are all the types of information I would like to know before spending $400 or so on a camera. What other information would you like to know about a camera before purchasing? Amazingly small and good battery life are 2 pros about the camera but both of those take a back seat in my decision making process

Hum, I have to admit that 'skin problem' comment really does hit the mark. Though its only really been a problem in low light (speed

Still, I knew all this before deciding between the Optio S and the Canon S400, and I got the Optio S. 'Horses for courses'; I don't want to sell my photos or hang 'em on the wall in A3 size. I'd say this character is dead right for his purposes, and dead wrong in thinking his purposes are how everyone else should think.

I tried it times!! But the more times I tried, the more I love my little S!!

No camera on the market now and forever would be called perfect, but I just can say Optio S has done almost all it's supposed to do!!
