Pool pics- AI Servo is great! (3 pics)

Hi Pete,

You mentioned grain in some of my other pics at pbase. Please be more specific and then I can answer more accurately. Many of my shots on pbase were taken with the Sony 717 unless you were specifically looking in a gallery that has 10D in the gallery name. There are also some 10D shots where I used ISO 1600 for two reasons, to see how the 10D performs with high ISOs or in a low light situation where I needed it. For example, some of the pics at Lake George were taken after 8PM at night.

Let me know which pics you are referring to. Most have the exif data.

Thanks,
Roberta

There's that whole front-focus/back-focus issue (due to wide tolerance) and depending on the lens, the continuous focusing can help to fine tune it rather than have it stop in the wrong position and stay there. Again, in theory. If you use one-shot, you can focus a few times and notice the lens creep one way or the other...which can make a big difference depending on subject distance...especially in less than ideal light conditions. IME.

None of your photos needed or benefited by using AI Servo or AI
Focus. They would have been just as sharp if shot in the one shot
mode. They are great shots with beautiful stop action that is the
result of fast shutter speed. AI Servo only is of benefit if the
subject is moving toward the camera or away from it at a
significant rate of speed. There is movement in these pictures but
not toward/away from the camera.

Keep shooting though. They are good pictures.
I wanted to check out AI SERVO with some pool pics. The first shot
(AI Servo) was taken with the 28-135 IS and the second (AI Focus)
and third (AI Servo) were taken with the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro.
The AI Servo works great and both lenses performed well. I love
this camera!!

Nice photos. I like the servo mode as well. Using it I was able to easily take photos of my sone ridiing his laser scooter towards and catching in mid-air doing a jump. He thinks the shots are totally cool with him a few inches off the ground.

Roberta,

Sorry, I just realized that you replied... For the most part, you have some very good images Roberta and even the ones that I've been referring to aren't bad... Here is an example of a shot with grain in the back ground...

Basically, I've been checking the 10D out pretty carefully as Both Canon (silky smooth with soft pleasing saturation) and Nikon images (Good Contrast with very crisp edges due to high saturation) have their own look to them and for some things I've really like the Canon look while others I've really liked the Nikon look. So don't take this post the wrong way as, right now it's only the focusing thing that's holding me back!

Pretty-Navy,

As far as I know you have to have your pics posted somewhere online. You copy and paste in the URL then add .jpeg after it to post the pic. Click on Preview (below) to see if it works, then if you are successful, click on Post. Maybe someone else can give you other options.
