Who cares about niches? It's just the right tool for the job. Like D700 was. Hope Nikon won't spoil this one with some stupid bug.

6.5 FPS will be a deal breaker for many people. I suppose a battery grip will increase it (at much extra cost of course).

The approx price is 2149 GBP which seems a heck of a lot more than the D610 for better AF as the main advantage.

Really all this camera does is ahow how badly Nikon need a true D300s successor, especially given the rumoured 7DMkII specs (20MP, 10FPS).

I think Nikon saw a gap in their pricing and decided to fill it without really thinking if the market desperately needed the D750.

looking forward to it

If Body is close to D700 or D810 then it is worth to buy, otherwise If body is close to D610 then it is not worth to buy for higher frame rate.
0.5 FPS over the D610...Definitely not worth it. But don't forget the 51 point AF which might be worth it for some people.

Specs seem closer to the D610 than I thought. Last week there was a post on NR about the D610 possibly being discontinued early.

**Wild speculation**

I think Nikon thinks the D6X0 line was a mistake and is trying to move the FX line back upscale by *replacing* the D610 with the D750. Basically, the core market of FX buyers can afford a $2500 body, the margins are much better in the D750 (in line with Nikon #1 goal to improve profit margins), and the D600 probably ended up in a net loss due to the sensor debris fiasco. It would probably be better for Nikon to concede the low end FF market to Canon to Sony and focus on seller fewer, but higher margin, cameras to pros/enthusiasts with more disposable income.

Complete nonsense. Why would you concede the entry point to the FX market when you know people will upgrade later to more expensive cameras? The D6x0 was a huge success as it FX-enabled a large number of ppl. If anything, they need a LOWER priced FX option to bring in even more folks to move even more ppl from DX up the food chain.

Can anyone explain why Nikon put dual SD on a "pro" body? Many professionals prefer CF for many reasons. Even the upcoming 7d mk 2 has cf option.

Does anyone know the production cost of DX vs FX sensors? Surely FX gets cheaper as time goes by.

I want to go FX from my D90, but right now, even a D610 is a bit expensive. Roll on the first £999 FX camera.

What are you talking about? The specs are extremely close to the D810, Focusing , Metering, exposure, video…I have no idea how anybody can say they are similar to the D610.
