One of the main reasons I bought the V1 was to carry with me to parties and receptions for people pics. I have rarely had good luck with my other compacts in this area -- too slow a shutter speed and camera shake, no DOF, flash too bright, flash not bright enough, lots of red eye, magnified dust particles etc.. But I brought it to the Army Ball last night (wouldn't fit in my tiny evening bag so I just figured what the heck and put it in a "stylish" camera bag). Someone used it to take this, and I was quite happy with the result.

I have found the onboard flash on the V1 to be more accurate than the onboard flash on my 717. When you need external flash the F32X has done a wonderful job.

I would love to visit the place your have seen, you are so lucky!

Hi Greg,

Yes, I agree; I get better results with the V1 onboard flash than with that of the 717. I have pretty much decided against the F32X (at least for the V1) just because I want it to remain a true compact, and that flash looks bigger than the camera! Can you use it with the 717?

Well, I would imagine you could quite easily visit the places I've been -- it's just a matter of dragging yourself away from your business for a few weeks!!

Has the manual arrived yet? If not, I'm so sorry. I had heard rumors that the APO/FPO mail system had slowed down terribly, but this is ridiculous. I can get you another one if you want and mail it express mail.

The picture looks good to me too. And people pictures are what I take most. I've been considering the V1 but what's put me off was the rather unnaturally bright red colour that a deep red, almost maroon shirt turned into in a pic that I took at the camera store. As a V1 owner, I was wondering if this is something you've experienced too? (I'm pretty sure that the camera was set to the default settings)

Thanks!

Maybe one day I can get away but my company is growing over 50% every year for last 6 years, can't leave now.

I agree about the F32X being big for the 717 but it sure takes some nice flash shots. Yes it works well on the 717. Got high ceilings in my house and it bounces off the livingroom ceiling at 32' and exposes images very well.

Please don't worry about the manual. I am in no big hurry and it will get here when it does.

The BEST to you in your travels!

Hi Taliesyn,

This sure sounds familiar -- I may have answered this in another thread, but in any case I have found the colors to be quite accurate with the V1, much more so than some of the other (many) Sonys I have owned. I would imagine that something was off with the White Balance in your store shot -- fluorescent lights can do very strange things with incorrectly set WB. I would give it another try if I were you.

Helen,
Looks very good. I spoke with you last year about this time on the P9.

I now have the V1 and am still learning what features to use when, although it's very close to my P9 and 707.

Anyway, this last weekend I took some indoor flash shots with the V1 which did not come out very well--dark and blurry. Flash setting was on low. I was wondering what setting's you use on your camera for the indoor flash shots such as the one posted that turned out so nice?

Hi Helen,

Thanks for the reply (twice!) - I didn't notice the 'my threads' tab until now and thought my first post had been lost somewhere. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the V1, just need that final bit of convincing to get around to it!
