I just committed myself to mucho $ for the 10D and two lenses. Sigma 15-30 and Canon 28-135. I plan to keep my Sony 717 too as I know there will be situations where I'll want a more portable camera. Phew! I graduate with an AA in graphic design on Friday and this is my (big) present to myself for three years of hard work. ('Course I was kinda planning to get one anyhow.) I originally planned only to get one lens but I learned that I'm getting an award on Friday that almost pays for the second lens. Didn't take a second to decide to get both. Now I've got a big learning curve ahead of me. (Another good reason to keep the 717.) Everything is supposed to arrive Thursday. I bought the camera from onecall.com and the lenses and a case from B&H. (They didn't have the body in stock.) I'll post when I get a few pictures. :) Ann

How exciting Ann. I'm thrilled for you on both counts.

Ann, The first thing to do (after charging the battery), is to go into the menu and find "clear settings" choose "clear all camera settings".

The boards are programmed on a machine, and clearing all settings is like doing a computer reboot.

Welcome to the club ;-)

That's a wonderful way to reward such a grand accomplishment. Beats the heck out of champagne! But mebbe there's room for a little champagne too?

Look forward to seeing more 717 and new 10D photos.

Michael

Already got the micro drive, extra battery, Sigma 28-70 EX ASPHERICAL, Canon 70-200 f4 L and extended warranty from B&H (boy are they fast!). Body coming Thursday from Profeel.com

So we can experience these growing pains together Ann! Just hope we get good ones, there are some focus and other issues running around with the 10D. :(

Have fun! Cindy

I'm sure I'll be sending up "help" signals as time goes by. I appreciate your good suggestions. Thanks, Ann

Don't fret the focus issues... there are very few that have a problem, and most of those are the earlier cameras.

The suggested fix (and first thing to do with the camera) is to go to the menu and then clear "all the camera settings".

It looks like there my be some bad settings from the machine that dumps them into the circuit board. Clearing all camera settings in the menu is like rebooting your computer.

My 10D is razor sharp and focuses dead on. And the low light focus is great. If I can see it in the finder, I can get a focus lock.

Good tip Ron, thanks. Shutter is having major probs with his - not only poor focus (expecially in low light) but actual shutter speeds slower than the settings - but that occurs randomly. I don't know if he's tried clearing the settings. I'm holding my breath for a good one. Thanks, Cindy

The joke in my family is that you only buy big items when you are broke. I am clearly broke, or at least I will be when the bills come in. I bought the body on a one year no interest loan. At least it spreads out the pain. LOL Ann
