Canadian Canon estore has EOS-M with 18-55 and flash (refurbished) for $275 CAN. I can't decide if I need another M. I already have all 3 lenses and flash, and will probably sell 18-55 and flash on eBay if I go for this deal. This will make price of the M around $100. My only confusion is if tomorrow new M3 will show up — I'll purchase it with my eyes closed. And then I will end up with too many cameras. What should you do?

Hi Mark,

I would stick to 18-55 lens as all rounder. If Canon decides to develop the M-line further, they will have to add more native lenses as well. The kit lens is really versatile unless you like to shot wide with 11-22 more. Buying another (original) M body at current prices would make sense. I will be happy with 2 M's: one with 18-55 and the other with 11-22 lens right now.

Cheers

Richard

I don't know how we can answer the question of how many cameras you want or need. It is certainly a good deal, but you are the only one that can tell us if you'd use the camera or not.

I have 5DMKII as addition for my EOS-M.

My question is what do YOU think — is it make sense to purchase backup M for somewhere around $120-150 (after selling lens and flash)

A symptom of GAS is looking for justifications to buy just because something is a good deal.

Here are some great recent deals:

RX100 $399

NEX 3n with 16-50 pancake $299

Canon SL1 body $375

Olumpus E-PM2 with collapsible 14-42 and 40-150 telezoom $399

Tempting all.

But the great thing about GAS is that it is fickle. If you don'[t buy that second EOS-M body that is money not spent so the next time when a great deal comes by and there is a better justification you can go for it!

I understand your position, but I don't think I have same situation.

I have only 2 body: EOS-M and 5DMKII

During last year, I sold all lenses I really used and kept only ones I like the most:
3 native M lenses, 40mm Voigtlander, 100mm L macro and my 35mm Lensbaby. I purchased one new lens for M— Sigma 30mm f/1.4.

I was thinking about second M not because of good deal, only as backup/dedicated wide angle combo with 11-22mm. But decided to wait for next generation of M — I'm good for now, and will be purchasing new M3 when time comes anyway:))

I had a 5DMK II when I bought the M in July. It came with the 22mm and I bought the EF adapter. I have since added the EX90 flash, 18-55 and I just got the 11-22. I bought a used M on eBay with 600 clicks to have a second M. I wanted to be able change cameras instead of lenses. I love having one body with the 18-55 and one with my 100 2.8 macro or 11-22 when I get a chance to use it. My 5D MK II still gets use when the AF and quicker speed is needed. It has made a nice combo.

I think a backup/spare is a good idea, especially as you are already with Canon lenses. I'm thinking of a second one for conversion to IR, myself.

Great strategy. Less lens switching also should mean less sensor dust or debris.

I think its a logical flaw to say the second body costs 120 to 150, because you lost the services of two camera items. Items that you might want again in future, who is to say you wont suddenly develop an interest in flash photography.

And the 1855 is no slouch in the iq department either, unless you got a poor copy.

It would make sense to have the second copy if you want to carry two without the need to swap lenses.

I have 3 M bodies. My EF-M 18-55 and 11-22 are pretty much permanently attached to 2 of them. The last M body is used with various other lenses - 22 f/2, 70-200 II, 85 f/1.8.

I hate changing lenses on location. It is worse with a mirrorless, as there's no mirror in front of the sensor to shield it from the elements. Not to mention the shorter flange distance makes the sensor a lot closer to trouble.

I'd say go for it if you like to shoot multiple bodies. No matter how fast you can change lenses, you can't beat just grabbing another body/lens and shoot away when the situation calls for a very different focal length than what you have in your hand.

Yes of course.

Go for it.

The first EOS-M might fall.., you might break it..,and in case you do not buy a second one you will blame yourself forever.

Buy a second one..,you might just keep it..,or offer it.

I bought 3 of them , one to offer and 2 for me.

(And the second body and f2 lens was over 620 USD. ).

Do I regret it ? Not a bit.

Go for it.

The camera is awesome, colors are accurate...,body is gorgeous..., a small jewel.

Which I also noted you were going to sell to fund the body.

Since you also have the 580, by selling the 90ex, you would lose the ability to do off camera flash usingthe eos m and lose a world of exciting lighting possibilities.

Carrying the 5d plus m is not the same as carrying two ms. So tthis is the only reason for a second m.

I'm planning to sell lens and flash only from second set (I don't need doubles). My goal is to have 2 M bodies with 3 native lenses and one 90ex flash:) My 5DMKII is usually stays home, so I will be caring 2 M bodies — one with 11-22mm, and another with one of the rest of my lenses.

I just order it — I love the M, and I'm sure I will not regret it.

Thanks for your feedback.
