Sure but for such a minor improvement, only 1 mp
That's a million more pixels. And while pixels are not everything to everybody, I need 'em for the pictures I take.
I'm not saying that I will, but I'm not yet saying that I won't. "Probably" is definitely on the menu, however. Heheheh...
spend all that money or just keep what you have another 6-12 months
and get a 5-6 mp prosumer camera with enhancements beyond just the
extra megapixels maybe something that focuses in lower light, takes
more fps, has an enhanced CCD etc.
I've already resolved in myself that I'm a camera hog. I like it that way. In fact, I've been an advocate for a long time now that if you CAN, then you SHOULD have two cameras. I'm half-kidding, and I'm half not.
I'll get what I can now, and let 6-12 months from now take care of itself.
Besides, I'll have plenty of gear to sell, which will make up most of the cost of a new model, whichever way I go.
Everyone clearly has their own
answer to this but if Canon is targeting this camera beyond the P&S
crowd into the prosumer market they should be making improvements
beyond just a 1 mp enhancement after a year.
Uhmm... the G3 is already pointed squarely at the prosumer market. I even know pros who use it for some work. I've used it for pro work myself.
It's not the improvements that matter so much as what the camera is simply able to do. If the G3 was a great camera, then the G5 will be great --- but with even more pixels. The fact that it's not what everyone had hoped does little to tarnish its ability.
I'm sure the G5 will stand on its own merits.
