So, how are they going to sort out the forums now?

I think we should use any explanation/reasoning that might work to keep this forum intact, with its current name or some new hybridized name. I dabble in the M43 forum a bit and though there are some nice people in the group, it is like trying to drive on the freeway in LA over there. Things move too fast, there's too many of them, there is too much going on - a veritable madhouse. This forum is more like a leisurely stroll through a peaceful village. I shoot mainly with my OMD now, with about half m43 lenses and half 43 lenses. I will probably never part with my E30. What I appreciate here is the interest in what the gear will DO, rather than just gear itself. There are photo threads on this forum!! People post real photographs in them, look at other peoples' photos and comment!! There is civil interchange!! I would sure hate to see this forum merge with the freeway, I probably would just give it up
Nicely put...it is scary over there...watch what you say your head may fly off....Hopefully we can keep our Olympus SLR forum going but I still think we will have to incorporate the EM-1 in somehow esp if it can shoot my 14-35 as well my beloved E-5....John

Welcome to the Olympus SLR Talk, this is the place to discuss Olympus E series SLR cameras and lenses...Micro Four Thirds models (with exception of model EM-1) should be discussed on the Micro Four Thirds Forum......What do you think....John
So the other forum's description will need to read . . .

Welcome to the Micro Four Thirds Talk Forum, the place to discuss Micro Four Thirds models such as the Panasonic GF, GH, GX & G series and the Olympus Pen and OM-D series, except the EM-1 which is discussed somewhere else

Do you think that the mFT people to be happy with that arrangement.

Peter... I didn't say to change what the Micro Four Thirds says..they can discuss the EM-1 camera and lenses all they want..I only referred to changes to our own SLR Olympus Forum....John P.S. If what I said was not clear the wording would have to changed(I was better at Math then English..my apologies).....

Nothing will change.

I have said that I though a Olympus interchangeable lens camera forum might be a good Idea.

However.

Leave it like it is.

With the amount of traffic generated on that forum and the number of top threads 1041 generates DPR would be loath to change it. It has become the catch all for mirror less users be they Sony , Fuji , Olympus or Panasonic. It's the forum to state your case as to thoughts on mirror less or to compare notes/brand bicker . It generates traffic lots of it , DPR would hate to see this lower so leave it. . Anything goes and leave the MODS to sort it out and cut down on the blood letting. If my suggestion of an amalgamation came to fruition it would water down 1041 and leave us bickering in an Olympus forum.

So maybe if it ain't broke don't fix it. Post here with picture etc and if you want to stir things up post there. :)

Purley from my point I might find myself with a banning if I partook regularly on that forum. I have never been band or cautioned yet. And have only had one sub thread pulled (Last week) over perceived racism. ( it was not intended as racism but I stood on some area specific toes . ) so maybe its nice to stay here. Strangely and read into this what you like but a minute part of me did not want mirror less which would force me to post 1041 in the case of this forum being moved. Silly and childish is it not or obsessively petulant some would say.

Agree with leaving as it is. This forum has at long last become much more civil and as such enjoyable.

But must admit the EM-1 looks promising and I may be tempted! :-)

Cheers

Hi Mario that was just one idea but if we mix in the EM-1 why keep out the other OMD's? I guess we can keep it as it is and just watch this forum dye on the vine like the Kodak or mix all ILC's together or separate out the entry level bodies from the pro bodies as they do in the Nikon forum it works fine there.
Personally I don't have a problem if micro 4/3 people post here, especially in the photo threads. However, if people come seeking technical gear advice - and let's face it, many posts are technically oriented - they're more likely to find an answer among people who predominantly use similar gear. That's the whole reason the forums are structured the way they are. So if all the E-series people here progressively migrate to to EM-1 and successors, then staying together here makes sense. There's merit in changing the name to "Native Four-Thirds Lens Focusing Capable Camera Forum", but I thing the existing name rolls off the tongue a little easier.

They may eventually need to add a "pro" µ4/3 forum, because that joint desperately needs to do something about the signal-to-noise ratio. This place will stay put as is--I'll note the continued existence of the Kodak SLR forum.

If you check the that forum, the age of threads on the front page goes out to 6 months. Not exactly what I'd call thriving.

Mario
Agreed. I just don't anticipate they'll be motivated to do anything further with this forum but will instead somehow break up the micro forum as the gear finally diverges into distinct groupings.

Cheers,

Rick

I think the traffic in the m4/3 forum will fall quite rapidly in the near future.

If Olympus and Panasonic continue to release new m4/3 cameras at the current rate, all those guys over their are going to have their heads explode. They are (some of them) already clamoring for a GH5 or a GH6.

Every new M4/3 camera causes a shark-like feeding frenzy.. they will either consume themselves, or their heads will explode.. Either way the world will be a quieter place.

'pro' forums generally make the SNR worse, not better because once you pout that title on a forum, it becomes inhabited by sniffy wannabe 'pros' who use their camera choice to look down on the buyers of 'inferior' cameras. That's not how this forum works at the moment, and it would be a shame if it turned into that.

I have asked the same question in a thread I launched three weeks ago.

My take for the description of this forum is:

The place to discuss Olympus E series digital SLR cameras, 4/3 lenses and any camera that can handle them (Purely Micro Four Thirds cameras and lenses should be discussed on the Micro Four Thirds Talk forum)"

Confess to spending zero time in either--rather a departure from their denizens who routinely swoop in here to waste our time as they attempt amateur mockery/self-congratulations—so have not clue one about the tenor of the discussions. What I believe will/must happen with the µ4/3 forum is dividing it into two chunks: one for the advanced cameras (however one may prefer to divvy them up) and one for everything else. If traffic gets sufficiently heavy, go ahead and make a third lens forum.
That is sensible, actually. The usual 'not advanced'/'advanced' delimiter is the number of control wheels. One wheel is based on one model of usage, where you're essentially relying on auto modes, two wheels symbolises that you want more control. With that split, the concerns tend to be a bit different, so makes sense to have different forums.

Are we going to end up with one big scrum of M4/3s and 4/3s, seeing as it's heading towards "one beautiful system"?

Perhaps: Oly Bodies, Panasonic Bodies and 4/3s & M4/3s lenses?

Thoughts, ideas, random people calling me an idiot?
Why worry? I have my cameras and lenses, mostly Olympus four thirds, and unless they will suddenly vanish, which I think highly unlikely (well with my memory I could misplace them all), I will continue using them. I suspect I am not alone. If it is not broke, why fix it, and why worry about it? Go have some fun and shoot something. :-D

Here here!!

Besides E7, E70, and E700 will keep all busy ;)
