Picture of G5

Yeah, I also find it odd that Canon would launch a new product in
Europe before Japan....but maybe they realise their domestic market
won't be impressed by the relatively small changes...
They did so with the announcement of the G3, so there's precedent there.... (And no, I don't know why, neither.)

we're over analizing the photo I think. if you look at an earlier post from the guy that originaly posted( the "I'm the original poster on tweakers.net) it you can see an extreme close up. it is just a 4 color seperation print(cmyk) that is made to be mass produced cheaply.

A black version after 6 month, we had this with the G2 already. Swapping in a 5Mpixel sensor wasnt hard as the electronics were available.

The G5 story sounds realisitc to me.

To the photo. It may be doctered but it could be that the shop who launched the flyer created the photo to have something to show.

wouldnt surprise me if the real G5/3 looks just like that

matt

as I said the photo may have been created by the store who launched the flyer with no bad intend but to have a picture.

The technical data sounds believable to me. Maybe a new Gx will come out next fall.

i also think canon wont ship a camera with only 1 mp emprovment...
there shoud be plenty of innovations we'll see..
You must be thinking of a different manufacturer when you say that. You must be referring to Cannon. Or maybe Danon.

You see, the Canon I know released three (3!) cameras in three separate years (years!), all in the same body, and all with 2mp. The S100, S110, and S200. Just when you thought the next camera finally would be a higher MP, out would come the S200.

When do they finally release the S230, with 3mp? Right after the S200, and of course within a short time afterwards, comes the S400, with 4mp.

In a different form factor, of course.

And then they go back to the old one for no reason other than to change form Compact Flash.

Well Whether its real or fake...
If Canon comes out with a 5mp and nothing more than a 4x digic etc.
It will be nice... But my feeling is that they will be somewhat behind..

Nikon, Sony, have succefull 5mp's and even the S50 has been out for a while.. I had read that they were not satisfied with the 5mp chips and that was part of the reason the G3 stayed 4mp...

Unfortunately from what I have read here they could not go to a 6mp
without a serious overhaul of the lense size of the camera etc..
But It would be nice to see them go down that road..and do it ...
They would be really seen as the leaders then....

I have to agree, there isn't enough difference in image quality between a 4mp G2/G3and the current crop 5mp cameras to make me want to upgrade. A G5 is going to have to offer something REALLY special to capture my disposable income!

I hope when Canon finally introduces the next G camera they dont photoshop the image at all or no one will believe its real. Anyway History shows that Canon updates there G camera about every year, so that would mean that there will be a major update before oct or nov of this year. Canon will not skip the 5mp and go to 6mp. That would be foolish, because than they would have to sell the 6mp for the same or lower price than the G-3(Original Retail price). So it makes sense that they may come out with a G-5 next month with little improvement other than pixel count. That way when they intro the G-6, they can offer it at a higher starting price and therefore make more money for a while. Its the same thing as the A60 and A70, if Canon never produced the A60, the A70 would have been priced the same as the old A40. The A70, which most likely costs Canon the same amount to build than the A60, is getting canon almost $100 more the A60. So my guess is there will be 2 G models introduced by the end of the year, a 5mp first than shortly after a 6mp. But I could be way off too, who knows.

The reason is because 6MP sensors of the appropriate size don't exist yet.
That
would be foolish, because than they would have to sell the 6mp for

Whatever they do, it will sell for the price the market will bear. I don't see the reasoning here.

Ah... One of the market skimming theory people. These sorts of explanations are based on several misconceptions. First, they ignore Canon's costs. Canon has to recover engineering costs, just as their suppliers do. Canon doesn't make CCDs. They buy them from Sony and Sony needs to recover their engineering and retooling costs for each new generation of sensors. The second problem with these explanations is that they treat Canon like a monopoly producer. Only monopoly producers have the luxury of this kind of pricing, but Canon clearly is not a monopoly.
Its the same thing as the
A60 and A70, if Canon never produced the A60, the A70 would have
been priced the same as the old A40.
Perhaps. We don't know Canon's costs.
The A70, which most likely
costs Canon the same amount to build than the A60, is getting canon
almost $100 more the A60.
If you look at pricegrabber, you can get an A60 for $215 ($230 w/shipping) from a reputable dealer. You can get an A70 for $260 ($280 w/shipping) from a reputable dealer. This is $50 price difference. For this, you get an extra 1MP sensor (for which Sony undoubtedly charges Canon more). You also get a larger buffer with the A70, which costs Canon more.

Of course, since Canon is operating in MARKET, the prices will be set by supply and demand and not Canon's whim.

This pic is the first somewhat believable pic out there, but if it is not real and it is indeed a fake, no one will throw a fit.

If it is real, however, those of you convinced that it is a fake will be the butt of laughter... kinda like those convinced the true pic of the G3 was a fake back in the day when that first surfaced.

Of course, that probably won't matter either... so, who cares. :P

Desperate for a new piece of technology to criticize? Canon sure has you guys going, why not just enjoy the camera you have and use it?!

Hello!

The picture(advert) is real, I also received the magazine yesterday from the well known company Spector in the Netherlands.

So the G5 is a fact :-)

Jan.

Accept the fact that canon makes ugly camera. I bet thats the G5 alright. Though it makes good picture. Black is in and silver is out for prosumer camera. I heard that even the next F717 is black!!! Forget G5 and buy nikon 5700 instead or sony f717 , lightyears ahead of sony g3 or g5.

Sounds plausable to me.

This strategy is begining to look like the Minolta 7i and 7Hi, a bit of a tweak, a splash of black and a higher price.

If Minolta can do it why not Canon? Hey they've already done it with the S50.

darren.

Actually, I'm waiting for the G5 to make the price of the G3 come down to more affordable. Doesn't matter much to me what the G5 is like. :)
