Canon i950 Printer - Satisfaction ????

I'd like to hear from Canon i950 owners. How are the 8x10" prints? What paper would you suggest (to use with Canon OEM inks)? I have a Sony DSC-F717 and a Canon S230. I also have an Epson 785EPX inkjet but printing is extremely slow (but good detail and color). Would it be worth it to upgrade to the i950?

Last year I switched over from Epson to a Canon s750 (four Color) after numerous clogging problems. I bought a Minolta 7HI camera when it first came out and decided that I needed a 6 color printer. I looked at Epson's again and HP's before I decided on Canon. I heard about the i950 and decided to wait. Absolutely fantastic right out of the box. I have printed some 8x10 shots of my son's hockey game and they were incredible. I used Canon glossy photo paper. I tried Koday 5x7 and it is not good. I will probably pick up some Office Depot paper this weekend. The only place that had them in Connecticut a couple of weeks ago was CompUSA and I drove about 2 hours to one to get it. I have no regrets at all.

I love the I 950 printer!!!! Use only the Canon PPP paper, and you will NEVER look back. IMHO, NOTHING compares in terms of paper. Good luck. Stuart.

I agree fully. I had an Epson printer for four years and recently switched to the Canon i950. Epson may have a lot more paper-choice, but Canonn paper is so much better, it is true photographic paper in looks, in feel, in everything. Epson Photo Paper looks like cardboard in comparison.

There is absolutely no way to tell the difference between a chemical print or a Canon i950 print printed on Canon Photo Paper Pro.

In addition yet get a printer that is so much faster than the Epson.

I love the I 950 printer!!!! Use only the Canon PPP paper, and you
will NEVER look back. IMHO, NOTHING compares in terms of paper.

Totally satisfaction. The best printer. Works well with Canon Photo Paper Pro and I use the Ilford Galerie Classic Pearl too, depending of the photo content and the user needs.

I've been using an Epson Photo 780 for the last year or so. Very slow and very noisy but produced outstanding 8x10's. I finally bit the bullet and picked up my i950 last night. All I can say is WOW!!! Why did I wait so long?

Absolutely satisfied. Upgraded from the S900 after less than 9 months and like the increased quality, quietness and overall look-and-feel. I use Office Depot Premium High Gloss Photo paper and Ilford Pearl.

I think my i950 is great also. I'm not familiar with the Epson you mentioned so I can't compare them, though. The i950 prints incredibly fast, and is amazingly quiet.

I also use OEM ink. I've been using Canon PPPro and the OD Prem High Gloss Photo paper mostly. I've heard good things about Canon PPPlus Glossy, though: it's cheaper, thicker, and has nearly equal quality according so some people I've seen here.

Ditto. Great printer. I gave away my Epson 900.

1) Black and white prints... how are they in real user experience? Are they smooth or dotty or something else?

2) Have any of you recent purchasers already noticed any color shift or fading?

Yes, i am very satisfied with it. I already had an S9000, and the i950 replaced an Epson 785EPX, so I wasn't surprised by the speed increase. The quality however is better than the S9000

I have nothing to compare it to except lab prints. The i950 is my first "dedicated" photo printer, I couldn't be happier. The Canon PPPlus Glossy is excellent value for 4x6. I'm using the PPPPro for 8.5x11, again, excellent. Haven't yet but I will try the OD paper soon.

Finally Frys got it in and I ran down there to pick it up as soon as I heard they had it. It has already paid for itself. At my local photo lab, I was paying about $7 a piece for 8x10 prints. Now I'm paying well under a dollar AND I'm getting better quality than the lab delivered (plus it took them 2-3 days).

Check out Stephen Livick's website. Though you shouldn't take his figures as absolute ones, you can still compare among the papers.

With Canon OEM ink, using their own Canon PPP yield 32 years under 100% artificial (fluorscent) conditions, while this number drops drastically to just 2 years with natural (though indirect) room illumination of 275 lux.

HOWEVER, with the same OEM inks, using Ilford Galarie CLASSIC series papers, we see a 5-6 fold increase in stability, lightfastness under 275 lux room illumination becomes 10.5 - 12.2 years. Using Epson Colorlife also prolong the longevity of the ink to about 11.5 years.

This printer is amazing. All my prints were done on Ilford Smooth Pearl paper (Red Box) with amazing results. The images are as good as anything ive printer on my old Epson 1280 if not better, and better color than my current 2200. The B&W's I did on the i950 did not impress me as much as the ones with the 2200 though it could be the Ilford is better suited for color. I'm going to try some new matte paper in the near future. One last thing, this printer is soooooooooooooo much faster than any epson ive ever used.
