24-120mm on the D100 hanging from his left arm.
Either 300mm 2.8 or 400mm (maybe 500?) on F5 or D1 series over his
shoulder

I use black Optech USA Neoprene straps on all my cameras. They are
much more comfy than the woven straps, they are waterproof, and not
abrasive on the back of your neck should you have to swing your
cameras around. The ones I have also have a weight reduction woven
strap on top of the neoprene... very nice and best of all - LOW
PROFILE! I don't need some schmoe eyeing my camera with a big
yellow NIKON DIGITAL strap on it declairing the value of my gear.
It's hard enough to blend in as it is.

--i'm curious as to why would he use a 500mm lens. import shows are
usually crowded, too many people getting in the way of your shots.
my 80-200mm is enough reach at these events.
unless he's going for really close shots?

Sports shooters very often use monopods with big glass, though you're probably more likely to see a 400 f/2.8 with a teleconverter than a 500 f/4. My guess is that nature shooters are more apt to use a tripod, but a monopod sure is a lot better than hand-holding.So I guess you can se one of these monsters on a monopod? Do you
any of you guys shoot nature or birds with that lens and a monopod?
What is it like?
