I am leaving

Again, I apologize Andreas. I guess American humor and European humor
are quite different.
As a Brit living in the USA my somewhat cutting cruel humor often gets
me in trouble. Personally I regularly use the kindney joke! Someone asks
to borrow something I ask them to leave a kidney on deposit!

One of the great things about this forum is the range of people from so
many different countries all trying to communicate in one language that
is not native to us all.

Whats impotortant is what people mean not how we interprate the words. A
sincere appology has been given in this case and I think it should be
acepted gracefully!! If every time one of us is offended by a post we
leave or ask the poster to leave pretty soon there will be no real
discussion left.

Just one guys opinion!

Cheers
Guy.
Andreas is a fine young man, sooner or later he'll accept the apology.
Why don't we just blame the "the kind of flame thing in the Nikon forum".
(OK, that's a joke!)

=)

Andreas,

You just can't leave, who will do the monthly moon shots?

Just kidding, I can understand how you feel, I'm from the states and I felt it was an inappropriate comment even as a joke (smiley face and all)!

Unfortunately, in a multicultural forum such as this, there are bound to be comments and words used that are normal and everyday to some and offend others. This doesn't always mean the individual writing the phrase is a total idiot, it just means they live in their own little world and don't have a global mind.

You are the lighthouse in the storm. You keep us on the straight and narrow, and the calming wind. Please don't deprive us of your talent, wisdom, and most of all friendship.

Hi,

Just have to say good-bye.

Because of this message:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=443926

and the kind of flame thing in the Nikon forum i think it is better to
leave the dpreview forum as an "active" member and just read interesting
postings.
Sounds a bit strange i know. But just had to say this.

Best regards,

Andreas

Bahahahahah!!©
And please tell Ullysses that we don't WANT to see his picture ;> )
(It's more fun trying to imagine him!)
That's OK. I never intended to post anything recognizable anyway. I enjoy the mystery as much as everyone else enjoys trying to figure out 'what his real name is'. :)

Well, I will say this one more thing.

I live in New York. While I know that New York vendors may not have a very good reputation on this or any other forum, New Yorkers can be a tough-skinned lot. You here and see it ALL in this state. The ridiculous and the insincerely sublime all fade into the noise of the crowd after a while, leaving you to easily recognize the real gems, such as Andreas.

... and Yes, I made that line up myself. What's it to ya?

LOL!!

But seriously, I hope he stays.
Ulysses,
you are always a boss in this NG ... as Andreas.

Wonder what would happen if Nikon released a new camera and no one bought it? Could we label that as "Andreas' Revenge"?

LOL!!

Nahh! Andreas isn't that kind of guy either.

Hi Andreas,

I am assuming that perhaps you have not "packed your bags" completely yet, and probably have been reading these sincere and heartfelt responses to your message, or at least I hope you have done so.

As for myself, I found my "feeling level" response to your posting to be somewhat odd, as I really don't "know" you in the strictest sense of the word, yet I felt a deep sadness and profound shock, way out of proportion to what I would have believed "should" have been my logical response, especially if seen or evaluated by a non-involved "outsider" like my wife, for instance. Your decision seemed to carry the same type of response reaction that humans go through when dealing with personal loss, sometimes called the grief response: shock, sadness/grief, denial, anger.... Very interesting considering the circumstances, yet I have come to realize that all of our "relationships" here is somewhat magical and unique, as I've very seldom if ever seen, felt, or experienced the caring, comradrie, humor, and single-minded purpose that I have seen on this forum. I have shared your photos with all my family members and read many of your posting comments to my wife, who felt that my reaction wasn't overblown (just unique), as she felt sad herself.

A very large part of my reaction was in fact due to that "uniqueness" quality of this forum experience, (remember my posting re: Sony Talk Forum addiction and all of the humorous yet truthful responses) which in no small part has been due to your presence here, your support for others, humor, gentlemanliness, gentle humanness, and personal "uniqueness" all of which have seemed to me to be very important ingredients contributing to all of our obvious joy from sharing with each other on this site. Certainly I don't "know" you, yet look forward each day to in essence "talking" with you. The contemplated loss of that is, for myself and obviously for others, a truly sad situation. Your presence here has set the tone in a very deep and meaningful way as to what I believe this forum at its' core is all about. You have helped me to realize that the world is not so large a place after all, and that our somewhat vast separation in terms of location and distance, has nothing to do with the newly recognized closeness in proximity and feelings, of the human heart and experience. If I "knew" you better I would be most proud to call you my FRIEND, instead of "friend". In terms of the help you have given me and your contributions here, the former is more the felt reality, which appears to be the general consensus of feeling as reflected by the other postings of our Sony Talk Forum "friends" here in response to your message.

I think cross- culturally, we males of the human species can be pretty "determined" when it comes to taking a stand or position on a subject or circumstance. Our proud maleness sometimes makes it hard then for us to back-track or modify those staunch decisions. This I hope is not one of those times. I hope also that in all of your FRIENDS sharings here, that the warmth and obvious affections expressed for you don't then also make for a harder or more difficult decision to change your mind due to embarrassment. Personally I think we could all proceed quite nicely if we could all learn from this experience and continue to make the forum even more unique, and simply start again from this slightly more enlightened reality, a little wiser perhaps, but on again to the "business" at hand. Whatever your decision, good luck with your photography talents, and I'll hope to "bump into you", " here and there", "now and again"! Curt A.

WHOAAAA!!!! I was KIDDING! (Hence the grin at the end). I absolutely,
positively meant no offense by it. I would love to have a D30. I would
probably have to sell a kidney to get one though. That's what I meant.
Hi,

Okay! Accepted (maybe it had been better to take the ":)" more into account. But

i will explain my reaction. I have very deep, private contacts to Brazil. In this
country this kind of deals have another significance than in other countries.

Best regards,

Andreas

Hi,

I must say i am a bit overwhelmed reading the quantity and quality of the
reaction to this post. I really think i have found a great community to learn

a lot (not only about photography and digicams) and share my own experiences in my learning process. After analysing the whole thing again i have to confess that this was may a bit overreacted by me. So i think to "leaving" would finally be a greater loss for me.

Well, i feel engaged myself to answer to each response. But i will do this
via e-mail to terminate this thread soon.

Once again thanks a lot !

Best regards,

Andreas

It may not have made news outside the U.S. but it is a documented case that was also taken to the US Senate about a man who commited suicide so that his wife to have his life insurance money to keep fighting the Internal Revenue Service. It was his belief that the IRS was attacking him for political reasons by tying up all of his finances.

I have heard of people in very poor areas selling body parts to give their family a little better life.

Some times the truth is more bizzarre than we want to know.

Andreas

I didn't find the the remarks about the kidney thing, offensive. I believe the person was just joking with you. :)

I guess, people in different cultures take things differently and don't understand there meansings. You shouldn't leave because of that, this place is a great learning experience and great people around to help you out, besides we need people like you to help out too :)

Even though, I usually still in the Nikon forum. I do venture out to help others in all forums. So STAY, OK? :)

Calvin :)

Dino -

When I type "LOL", I always mean "Laughing Out Loud". This is fairly universal on the Internet. It is usually added at the end of a sentence or paragraph so as to attempt to soften what might otherwise seem to be a harsh or crass statement.

For example, New Yorkers are often generally misconceived as being strong in their use of verbal venom, but which is generally not the case with the New Yorkers I see posting here. Using "LOL" is meant to say something like, "I didn't really mean that, OK?" kind of like using the smiley symbol " :) "

However, others who do not speak English as their primary language (probably a minority on the Internet as English seems to be the de facto standard for now) occasionally use "LOL" to mean something else.

Boy, that took a long time to explain.

There is a wonderful FREE program on the net very useful for translations (also for acronyms like LOL, IMO, BTW, ...): Babylon. Use it for all your knoledge needs.

Hmm... interesting program. I'd seen it some time ago, but it has come quite a ways since then.

If you don't want to go to the trouble of downloading and installing an entire application, you can also go to the following for translation of a few major languages:

I know my handle doesn't give you much clue as to who/what/where I am. I have been into computers for longer than I sometimes want to remember. I am 99.9999% white and live in Alaska (which makes me whiter in the winter)(pun pun). I have a public education. That and the fact that I work with computers means I can't spell. I have been on the net for many years and spent many hours using email for chat rooms long before chat rooms existed. I just couldn't figgure out 'LOL'.

I have grown a very thick skin. You can call me an old dirty so and so and I would nod my head and say your are propably right. (it really pisses off the wif when I correct her use of derogatory terms in the middle of a fight).
