Hi from Sweden

Not so many good picture yet from the 500mm II, just had it 1 month and 22 days and it is raining.

I bought this lens because it can be handheld and have great IS. I had the Nikon 500mm AFS, Canon 500mm f/4 IS, and Canon 400mm DO f/4 IS before. I had them on tripod (except the DO), got to stationary and to slow. I bought the Canon 400mm 5.6 instead, great lens, close to 500mm in sharpness, but me and my friend have the feeling that the 400mm 5.6 might have slightly faster AF than the new 500mm II, but if you get it right, the 500mm II give slightly better picture quality compared to the 400mm 5.6. We totaly agree, the 400mm 5.6 is great for the money and much faster to shoot with.

Only handheld 500mm II, no tripod, some pictures from the short period I haved this lens. With Canon MarkIV

You have to se them at Pbase because they will be downsized on this page.

See them in original size

Did you have the old 500mm IS before? If so how do you compare the two?
Thanks

Very nice! I like the fox pictures.

Impressive for being hand-held. I guess that's where IS helps.

Hi

I had the "older" 500mm f/4 IS but that was many years ago. Remember that "old" 500mm was very sharp but more difficult to handhold. So I have not done any direct comparison between them. If I hade not sold the "old" 500mm back then and had that one I would probably not have bought the version II, it is crazy money, but I missed the 500mm and the IS compared to the 400mm 5.6 and wanted to try to handhold the new 500mm and se if it works to handhold many hours in the field and it does work. I never really tried to handhold the old 500mm, had it on tripod. Just remembering to handhold the old 500mm in a boat and my arms were shaking and hurting.

why can't flickr or facebook implement the Pbase layout
Heck , why not just buy over Pbase....
Yahoo could have done sooooo much more with Pbase.
