Ever since I bought my Sony Camcorder, I have been using the bundled 'Picture Gear Lite' which I actually like.

I have started to evaluate ACDSee 5.0 which is better, but not perfect.

Are there any other applications which people use to view photos. The appication needs to have the facility to bulk resize/rotate/change resolution etc and this is something which ACDSee does very well, but not Picture Gear.

Any recommendations would be appreciated

For practically as long as I've been using modern type PCs I've used ACDSee on the machine-of-the-day and I use it almost entirely for viewing. I don't think too much of the other facilities - as an editor of sorts it's "sick" against such as PS or even PSPro ...but as a viewer I've yet to find ANYTHING to beat it for ease of use..pick up a pic or directory as easy as wink .. Gamma control to set the pic display to suit (although default is usually excellent ) and everything I've wanted as a good plain easy viiewer. Am surprised you feel disappointed with it Comparing the simple facility you seem to require I cannot think of another that is as good and easy. Icon on the desktop, almost instant open and you've got a viewer .. with a fair bit of pic detail attached too (size is particularly useful to see any pic at any moment, the instant size and whether you may need to resize it. Fine program. I still use ver3.1 as it's entirely good enough for that

Oh, I forgot - also if you need it , near instant full screen view for better comparison if needed. What other in that range of use does it as good ??

I started using this one so long ago I can't remember. I couple of years ago I decided to register the full featured demo version I was using. It was one of the best software purchases I've made. $80USD well spent.

ThumbsPlus is very easy to use on the outset, but the more you use it the more you discover it can do. I've picked up a few other imaging softwares, but never got around to installing them as ThumbsPlus does everything I can think of.

Download a demo and see for yourself http://www.cerious.com

I also just got ThumbsPlus. It was very easy to start using right out of the box. I have just barely touched the surface of everything that it can, including the aforementioned batch rotations, conversions, etc.

Breezebrowser, for top quality viewing can't be beat. It also cotains many other useful functions. Try it (I've had all of the "big names", but Breezebrowser is the best.)

Do any of these support JPEG 2000?

Eric,

Compupic displays photos better and faster than any other ap Ive found, and Ive tried a lot of them. I used to use acdsee. Compupic supports JPG 2000 too.

I'm using BreezeBrowser for a lot of things, but easy viewing is
not one of them. For clanking quickly through a heap of images,
I still find ACDSee3 (or ACDSee Classic) the best. It doesn't do
anything other than view and delete images, but it does those
really well. But Jon also wants to rotate and so on, so I'd suggest
either BB or one of the other, slightly slower but more reliable apps.

Once I've pared down the number of shots, I wind up BreezeBrowser
to process them and so on. But working on a couple of hundred
images at a time with BB is a bit of a pain. I can fly though that
with ACDSee just using space, backspace and delete to sort out
the images I'll probably never use, then go to BB for the final cull
and processing.

ACDSee is also great for showing people images - the slide show
again is fast and easy to drive. That's what counts.

Lots of good suggestions, but I would add one more. Imatch. http://www.photools.com Download it and try it out for free.

I've tried just about everything out there, and, IMHO, this is by far the BEST viewer, organizer, etc. etc. I have EVER tried. Also, the support from the developer is 2nd to none.

Just my 2 bucks.
