Hi All!

I just wanted to post a thanks to everyone here for being informative and excited about the Fuji S2. You all helped me make up my mind. (I also have a GSW-690 medium format that is awsome!) There are some very beautiful shots here also demonstrating the camera's ability... I hope I can do half as well....I have always been a film guy...small B&W darkroom in the garage....Speed Graphic, etc.

I ordered mine from Galaxy photo in Ottawa on Monday and it was here Wednesday in Nashville. I also got a 1gb Microdrive and the 28-105 lens. I am really happy with the service. All arrived perfectly. The camera is full Fuji warranted. And....$2050 with no tax. 613-836-7245 They have ads on Ebay.

By the way, I also called Broadway Photo and was amazed at the high pressure. I was given a price and then the topic of warranty came around to find out that they were selling grey market. He actually hung up on me after I told him I would rather cancel my order. I got so far as giving my credit card etc. Very rude. I was told that I simply had to buy the $100+ circulor polarizer. I was very put off.

Yesterday we had a lot of snow that kept me from shooting. Today is bright and clear with about 4".

I intend to try shooting a lot of Aerial shots. My friend and I fly around in an old Aeronca that provides good visibility and only flys at 90 mph tops. But it is quite demanding on resolution. The plane's view is such that a 50 mm lens is as wide as I can get without getting parts of the plane in the view so the 28mm ( 1.6) will hopefully be perfect. We like to do air to air shots too. I am really looking forward to shooting it. Maybe some aerial snow shots. Snow is rare down here.

Thanks again and I hope you don't mind my 2 cents every now and then.....

You are lucky you did not buy from Broadway. Check around the net and you will see why.

As for repair on your S2, doesn't it have to go back to Canada for repair?

You may be correct there, I don't know. I did ask if I had a problem to whom I address it and they said to definitely call them back. (I am hoping I don't have to cross that bridge.).... but after all, it took a day and a half to get here from Ottawa. And I have all the warranty cards from Fuji, the manuals are original. ( I did get an extra one in French... maybe for the Quebec ers.) The camera appeared unopened, like fresh from the factory. And the price? and no tax? My impression also was that alot of stores are out of stock and that it is simply hard to find the camera. I am very pleased.

I think Galaxy Photo said they sell about 25 a day.... (I think thats correct.)

I shot some raw shots of the house at 800 asa (ISO) in the flying snow. I am pretty amazed. Now if I can just learn composition...There must be an automatic compose button on this thing....

Just to let anyone know, i emailed both Fuji USA and Fuji Canada and they both confirmed that if you buy a S2 in Canada you would have to send it to Fuji Canada for warranty repair, but thats not a big deal in my opinion, but you dont get the Hyper utilites disk with the EX raw conversion software just the LE raw conversion software. I beleive Galaxy does include an AC adapter though.

Welcome to the group. I'm sure you're going to love your S2 like most of us do. Looking forward to seeing some cool winter pics soon! :-)

Yes, I did not get the hyper utilities disk and Yes I did receive the Fuji AC adapter and also full set of batteries and 4 rechargeable AA's with a Plug in charger. It's a sunpack and the batteries are...1800mah N-MH. I wasnt expecting that and was a nice surprise...

I got the three cables and want to get a firewire card for my desktop ... the USB took 3 minutes for 6 raw shots... I guess that would be 40 minutes for 80 via USB...

(I should be outside shooting....)

Mark

I got mine from FunFoto in Vancouver BC (US$1999), and the Hyper Utilities package for US$130, and 2-3 day shipping was only $45. (Some others charge a flat $100 shipping "fee"). They provided very good service, and were very responsive and pleasant. I had a similar experience with Galaxy Photo on the phone about a year ago about another camera, and am glad not to deal with them.

Hi Mark.. when the camera ships, is it by UPS, Fedex or how? What about the duty or how do you get it duty free?
Thanks .. and shipping costs?

Frank
Well let's see... here is the breakdown of all costs...

S2 $2050 USD
Shiping 35
28-105 AFD 310
More Ship 18
1GB Microdrive 278

Total $2656 USD I know I have seen the Microdrive cheaper but was worth buying it all from same place, same time. Esentially because the sales guy was no pressure at all!

So... no tax or duty shown on my invoice...perhaps it is figured into the price...

I think I got a good deal and if I am wrong, please allow me to be happy in my ignorance...hehe..

What I am amazed at was that it came so quickly!

MArk

Mine came Canada Post. No duty among Canada, US and Mexico under NAFTA.

Mark,

I've got three primes (35mm 2.0D, 50mm 1.4D and 85mm 1.8) and one 35-70mm 2.8D zoom because I shoot mostly people in controlled environments. I'm in the market, though, for a versatile long-travel zoom lens for non-critical, spontaneous shooting as I'm out and about. I'm considering the Nikkor 28-105mm, 24-120mm and the Tamron 24-135mm. Let me know how you like the 28-105.

Take care,

Kent

Kent
No , it is an important point and thanks for correcting me... It
will make the math easier....

28 is equivalent to 42 and 105 equivalent to 157.

I am very glad to have found this forum...I am learning alot.

Hi Kent,

First of all. I am very new to the digital camera and not sure as to the lens or software or camera settings in regards to sharpness of the lens. But...first results look very nice. I think I will also get a 50mm 1.8 prime because of the reviews and its so inexpensive. That said, I like the 28-105. I am used to shooting 28mm on film and miss the wide angle but do think the lens is plenty sharp enough for me. I have shot it at 105mm and particularly thought it was sharp there. Not quite as sharp at 28 but maybe I was shooting at wider apertures. It handles well, focuses very well, and I know I will enjoy the Macro ability but haven't shot it in macro yet.

It was rated well at this link:

http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_surv.html#top1

I hope I can give you more and better info next week after I shoot it more...hopefully from the air....
