Apart from Amazon (almost $400) price tag; I'm wondering does anyone know of a reliable source for this lens?

Many suppliers though having it listed, on enquiry then state, no it's discontinued, out of stock etc., but we have a better alternative (seems to be the catch phrase).

I am aware that my Sony camera DSC-H1, and the lens are both discontinued, but just wanting to see if there are other more reliable contacts I can contact, before resorting to the higher price tag.

Many thanks,
Carole M.

There's one (new) on the german Ebay 100 euro or propose a price, (won't be much less I think but worth a try) direct buy shipping worldwide

thankyou each of you who responded. Much appreciated. I will check each option and will leave a message if I have any luck.

I checked E-bay worldwide but the German reference you suggested didn't come up. Are you able to leave a direct link here perhaps? With thanks,

I actually had two of the Sony teleextenders - the first is slightly larger and heavier, called the VCL-HGD1758 I believe - it was silver, and matched with the F717 and F828...so you might try looking for those as well.

I then got the smaller and lighter VCL-DH1758 to pair with my H5, and used it extensively when I went birding.

When I moved to DSLRs, my H5 went to a family member, and the DH1758 went to my closet to be stored alongside my old H1...not used for many years.

When I picked up a NEX-5N to go alongside my DSLR, I also picked up the 55-210mm NEX lens, and had been thinking on ideas to get more reach, when I remembered the old DH1758...wondering if it would work, I checked the threads - the 55-210mm lens has a 49mm thread, and the DH1758 a 58mm thread - I happened to have a stepup ring handy in that size, so I tried the DH1758 on the 55-210mm lens, and sure enough, it worked - now I have 357mm of reach with that lens, along with the 1.5x crop factor means 535mm equivalent.

Anyway, just wanted to share a little bit on this converter - I hadn't heard any mention of it for years, then I found a new life for mine, so when I saw someone else post about it, I just had to read it. I did a quick search, and do find three sellers on Amazon with this adapter, and it's also listed on Buy.com.

This outfit has several aliases and one year ago, none of them had this lens or the DH1774 lens in stock, but stated that they did. After getting your charge authorization, they would try to shift you to a piece of junk that actually cost more.

At that time, I gave up on finding either of these lenses. The Raynox DCR-2025PRO will work on an H1, if you have the lens adaptor tube, but it's large and will vignette through all but the outer 20% of the zoom range. It comes with a 58mm to 62mm step-ring to adapt the barrel size. It is very sharp, but costs close to $300. nowadays. I have a DH1758 from 5 years ago and they will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands to get it away from me.

Carole looks at A.A. Katz White Paper:

http://www.aakatz.com/whitepaper/whitepaper/part11.htm
"The DH1758 can be used with the H7 and H9 with a simple 74-58 mm step-down ring readily available from Pemaraal for only $10 US. The smaller adapter lens works fine with the larger "adapter ring" that comes with the H7 and H9 only because we're dealing with telephoto. The more you zoom toward the telephoto end of your lens, the smaller the field of view. As a result, the size of the lens (only 58 mm) doesn't interfere with the image circle, which is much smaller than the maximum 74mm required at the wide-end of the zoom.”

Stay away from this seller, http://www.videodirect.com , I purchased a lens that was supposed to be better than the Sony 1758, well it wasn't. I had a lens that I purchased from another seller and I really wanted the Sony 1758 lens. Needless to say, they promised that if I wan't happy with their lens I could return it, no problem. Upon receiving the lens, I noted that the lens was exactly like the one I previously had. I hadn't broken the seal to the packageing and informed them it was still in the box unopened, well, let me tell you, I had the order in dispute with my credit card for three months, and received coercing calls from the company, saying I had stolen the lens from them because I cancelled the order.

I offered to snd them the unopened lens, no, they wanted the money. I finally gt the transaction removed and called them to let them know I didn't want the lens and would return it to them, nope they stated they would not accept it, but still wanted it....

So, buyer beware, they have a very limited return policy, they will give you grief....

thankyou for your feedback; glad to know you're having an extended life with it. That's why I also would like one, for birding mostly. Thankyou for the link

'm sorry to hear of your experience and this is what we need to be so wary of. Sometimes inadvertently we can get caught out and it hurts! So frustrating for you. I definately want the SONY product, VCL-DH1758 (preferably new). I don't want a 'suits Sony' item.
