Is the D7000 any good?

Yes I know it's a bad subject line but what else could I use to get some comments? Sorry.

Anyway I'm a happy camper with my D7000 and thought I would share one that I snapped on Christmas Day of our oldest grand daughter. (Take no notice of the date on the file. Camera travels a lot overseas and I don't change it).





Shot in RAW. Then to 16 bit tiff. Levels, curves and some modest USM. Then resized for DPR. (The conversion to jpeg for DPR really kills off the clarity. Unless someone can tell me how else I should do it). It's just one of those shots that all came together. I like the colours in the bubble and the sharpness of her face through the bubble.

I do like the color and clarity. I'd use an adjustment layer though to make the sky less drab. And....the poor girls right foot throws everything off due to the distortion. That was unkind of you as she seems a very nice model. Next time step further back and crop or use distortion correction.

What's with tree growing out of her head? Remember the difference between a photo and a snapshot quite often is good composition.

I think it's a very nice picture AND I love my D7000 quite a bit as well. I just know not to post my work here! lol!! Check out Nikonians.org, lots of D7K owners there, too.

Joking aside, this is a wonderful capture of fun moment with your granddaughter. I think the colors and sharpness look good. You captured her arm and the flowing bubble in a great position.

I guess folks need to learn the difference between a photo and a snap shot. Especially when it comes to 7 year old kids and their inability to stand still for more than a few seconds.

But that's ok. I'm happy to post a photo for other non contributers to pick holes in.

The point of the post was about the ability of the D7000 to capture the bubbles so clearly and at a slow shutter speed. Now if I had posed the photo I would have had someone cut down the tree first!

You asked for CC....and used a title gimmick to get it. The point of the post was not clear and you took 15 hours to clarify. In any case, Happy New YEAR

Tell you the truth, I rarely post up pics on DPR to illustrate any point. Most of the pics on this forum could be taken with any camera. If I'm wanting to illustrate some point, the next guy will disagree with me.

It's no big deal.

When you welcome CC (Constructive Criticism), I would think you have to also be prepared for comment. Some folks take that request seriously and comment on the things they like and the things that detract in their opinion. The distortion detracted from the sharpness. The composition was detracting for others. Some were confused by the subject title. I personally enjoyed seeing it, but didn't realize the intent of the post until now. It's a nice moment to share. Well, maybe if you posted it in the galleries forum, where it belongs, they wouldn't have assisted you in getting a better shot... and just left it at "nice pic !!!"

I posted it in the D7000 forum and named the thread as a D7000 discussion thinking I was making a comment about the ability of the D7000 to take a good shot given the cirrcumstances. (Snap shot. Moving subject. etc etc using the settings that were already in the D7000 and not having the time to change them).
I never anticipated the comments, as such, about composition etc.

The thread took a direction that I never considered.
Next time I'll spell out my intentions a bit better.

Well, you did ask for C&C.... but even if you hadn't... you would have got it.
This is a very technical crowd (albeit a lot less so than some other forums)...

We don't just see snapshots... we see ways to fix
