I bought 2 SD Transcend cards and both have failed.. I have been using Sandisk forever with my 5D's -never had a problem. Now that I recently bought a 60D.. I bought 2 Sandisk cards - no problem..no faails..Then I bought to of these Transcend cards and they are worthless; They have failed badly - they files don't load, they seem corrupt -= I don't know what it is about them.. I dont like SD cards all together - too small and too easy to lose..and in a work environoment - (ie:wedding) who can fiddle around with little tiny cards - you can't even grab them.. If I honestly knew how pesky these cards are I wouldnt have bought the 60D..

Cf cards are so much more manageable - and are still small when you think about it.

You must have very large hands and stubby fingers! j/k

I agree I much prefer CF cards - much more substantial and easier to handle when under pressure. That said, the only time I've had an SD fail was when I bought a fake one (through Amazon marketplace!)

It's possible you got fakes too...

I am sorry for your issues with Transcend but I must say that I have been using their cards (both SD and CF) for 2 1/2 years and have never had any kind of issue with any of them.

I used the SD cards with my Canon 500D and the CF with the Canon 7D after I upgraded cameras. I still use them and they have never given me any kind of trouble. Perhaps there is an issue with your batch or perhaps you don't have genuine Transcend cards. Did you get them from Amazon, B&H or some other reputable retailer? Or some place like eBay? And which speed version do you have?

I have a Transcend CF I use in my 7D. I have had issues with it off and on. It is totally random. Sometimes it will show a write error while taking pics and other times it will show a read error when trying to review pics. Other times no issue. It will do it when the card is half full and other times when only a quarter full. Usually I can turn off the camera and back on and things seems to work for a few more pics and then the same thing. I download the pics and format it and it will be fine for a few weeks and then it starts all over again. Not real impressed with it. Next card will be a Sandisk.

And if I start having problems similar to those you are having I will replace all of my cards the first chance I get. The cost of replacement cards is far less than the cost of missed photos from some once-in-a-lifetime trip.

I do carry some backup cards (older and slower, but still usable) when I travel just in case. But luckily for me I have never had a single issue with any of my Transcend cards. At least so far.

I too like the size of the CF cards my 50D uses over the SDs required by my 60D. However, I do appreciate not having to break out the external card reader for the smaller cards.

Over the years, I have just bought Sandisk cards. There was just one failure, but it was handled by Sandisk satisfactorily - though not especially quickly. Hopefully your Amazon reseller responds with good customer service.

Sorry for your misfortune. I know how that feels. I've had 2 cards fail and one was a Sandisk SD, and the other a Ridata CF. Luckily I only lost images on the Ridata as I had already copied from the Sandisk before failure. I still have the Ridata card sitting on my desk as a reminder, and also on the odd chance that some type of recovery may become affordable in the future. Traditional recovery software does not work because the computer does not even see the card when it's plugged into a card reader. I know if I could read the card at all, recovery software could likely recover most or all of the data.

I've been using Transcend cards since 2003 and have never had one fail. Currenlty I only use Sandisk and Transcend.

Well liek I said a friend videographer uses them and says they have no issues.. but for main stuff I will start using tHE 5dMKii FOR MY KIDS VIDEO MOMEnts etc..

I have three Sandisk and they work fine on the 60D.. I just wont trust the Transcend.. I ll try using them and see how it goes.. one is surely a disaster the other will work on teh camera but not on DPP when I try viewing them.. either through the camera itself or my two cards readers including the built in one on the pc...

long story short.. No more Transcend.. i didnt lose anything significant thankfully but will only use teh Sandisk brand..

Transcend IS crap - faulty CF card damaged both my Canons !
They reject any responsibility and ought to vanish from the face of the earth !

have had my 7D for two years now and i have only one CF card and it's from transcend ....

i have done almost every week several high speed bursts with it and never have had an issue .....

I had a 32GB Transcend SD card that wouldn't allow me to read various files. I was able to recover a few of the files but others were just not recoverable. I will no longer use Transcend brand.

So, based on these responses, Transcend users have had various experiences using the cards. Some people, myself included, have never had a problem in years of using them. Others have had repeated problems. Perhaps that is the normal usage pattern with solid state memory. I don't know.

There are reported problems with SanDIsk as well as Transcend so I guess it is like pretty much any product. Some percentage will fail, most will have no problems. In the end, I guess, you pay your money and you take your chances. Given my experience I would continue to buy Transcend but based on responses to this thread I would probably carry some other backup memory and make sure I backup each night (I normally do that anyway).

No I don't think I'll say its percentage and its normal is all aspects of cards,, Sandisk is extremely relaible.. --

I have almost 30 CF cards dating back from they only made as much a 256mb cards.. and when 1G was WOW.. and even though I dont use thso ecards.. over the years.. I have never had a failure with them.. and I don't shoot trees and lens caps.. Since 2005 tehy have been extremely reliable and I dont even baby them..

I buy one SD card from another brand and then I buy another.. and low and behold.. they both fail a few weeks after purchase.. So much for your stats

Tranascend are gargabe non professional cards in my opinion..

And Hey Happy New Year to all

Each person's opinion depends, to a large extent, on their experience. Personally I can say that I have been using Transcend for years now and have never had an issue with any single card, SD or CF, in multiple devices.

I used the SD cards as both digital film in my Canon 60D, in my iPad (with the CCK) and as general memory sticks in several computers. Never a problem. I used the CF cards in my Canon 7D, a Nikon I tested, several external battery operated data safes and, with some card readers, in my computers. Never a problem.

I think it is unfortunate that you had problems with your copies, but based on my personal experience I would object to the term "garbage". They have worked perfectly for me for years with never the first glimpse of a problem. Perhaps you just got some bad copies. That happens with all cards and there was a report of a problem with SanDisk in this thread.

Further it may have to do with whatever speed card you were using. I have been using the class 6 and class 10 SD cards and the 400x compact flash cards and never had a problem. I tend to think of them as very good cards and very good values. At least based on my experiences.
