Finally....

I was #1 on the SSD list, I'm not sure how many they got and/or are shipping out. I sent an email asking...I'll see if they respond and post it here. Anyone else have pre-orders in at SSD or elsewhere?? I'm curious to know if Sigma sent out a big shipment or little one. Also, because of the delay from when they first hit overseas and now here in the US, I wonder if Sigma used the time to run them back through QA for dust issues or firmware changes. The delimma is I don't know if I'm going to keep it. I've just spent a ton of money over the last year in Nikon lenses for my S2. Oh what to to, what to do.

Thanks,

Kevin R.

Serial number of Sam Pyrtle's camera was 1000415; Camera reviewed in Imaging Resource was 1000417; Steve's Digicam reviewed number 1000425.

This would indicate that a little over 400 SD9s had been produced at the time of the reviews.

The serial number of your camera might give us a clue as to production rate...es

Unless to be tricky they started numbering at 1000400.

Probably not, but you never know.

I think you're right.. It's unlikely they would start at zero and then ship the 400'th etc. out to reviewers. BTW. I've got 1000416.

The SD9 is now in stock at B&H Photo as well.

I think they count all the machines, ever prouced, including first test models, that maybe allready destroyed now. Because to start production from made-up number, thats stupid.

Kevin, I currently have an S1, I am waiting to purchase another camera. I have an SD9 on order. I am in a delima on wether I should get the SD9 or the S2. After you use your SD9 would you post an opinion on which one you prefer? This would really be helpful. I am pulling for the SD9.

Thanks

Hi Gary,

I have such an investment in Nikon Lenses that I've decided to not keep the SD9. I am tempted to at least play with it for awhile, but that means purchasing lenses that I wont be able to use either. So I will be selling it. I figure I'll get a better price if I don't open the box or use the camera at all. I hate to do it as I would love to put the camera through its' paces, and I'd really like to compare it to my S2, but I can't justify buying another set of lenses just to "test" it. It's one of the harder things I'm having to do. We'll see if my will power can hold out when the FedEx driver pulls up tomorrow :)

Kevin, why don't you sell your Nikon lenses now when they still have some value - and keep the Sigma sd9 + buy new lenses :-) - just an idea....but tempting, isen't it?

Kevin,
When did you order your camera from SSD. I received an email June 24th updating me on my order. At that point it had been a while since my order and they were just letting me know what was going on. Since then I haven't heard much. When others got an email about the camera recently, I didn't. I emailed them and they apologized for not sending me one as well. Like you, I'm not sure if I would want to use it if it showed up on my door step. I have no lenses for it and with the advent of the new Kodak camera I can hardly justify buying lenses to just play with it. A lot has happened since last February when it was first announced and I saw the first prints from it at PMA. A rep in the booth at PMA also told me they planned on having a full frame model at Photokina. That show has come and gone and we still don't even have a volume of these cameras shipping.

Sorry for rambling. When did you order your camera?
Thanks

Hi Wes,

I ordered in back in February I believe, when dpreview.com first announced it.

Yes, it is tempting. I even had the list of lenses I wanted already picked out. I could sell the Nikon stuff used for well more than new sigma's would cost. But the Nikon stuff is really good. But it is still very tempting :)

Hello Kevin,

Well, you brought me out into the open. I have been reading this forum since it's creation, but this is my first post. Awesome job everyone!

If you are serious about not keeping the SD9, no pressure, I would be definately interested.

Email - [email protected]

Thank you...8=)
