"unable to use card" message!!

Hi to all,

Trying to format my 128 MB card in my DiMAGE 5, but get an "unable to use card" message!!

Can anyone out there help me? I'm going out tmrw morning for a long weekend with family and hope to use this card.

This is a drag. I've had a similar experience with cards in a Dimage 7i.

On calling Minolta tech support, they said they have tested the camera with only a couple of brands of cards, one of which is SanDisk, and they couldn't vouch for the Dimage working with any others.

They also suggested trying to format/recover the card via an external card-reader.

I've had a little success with this approach.

There are a few of 3rd party compact flash rescue utils around. I'm thinking of checking out photorescue by datarescue, because a) it's cheap b) it's available for Mac OS X as well as for the PC.

I've since bought a SanDisk card, and as yet haven't experienced any issues with it. Not an ideal solution, I know, but at least if I have issues with this card then I shall expect Minolta to properly support their tested configuration.

I just returned home from a long weekend in the countryside.

Oh, how I missed my 3rd CF card. Sigh
