I came across this F30 pic today that I took a few years ago. i am posting it because I like it and because I think it shows what a nice job the F30 can do.

Agreed. The Fujifilm F30 was the first compact digital camera that met my base criteria for photography. An F30 served us very well for three years before we upgraded to an F70exr. Here is one of our favorite shots among those we took with the F30:

I know the F30 is a great camera, I have one too ;-) But can you explain what makes this picture so special?

Each photo is special to its ower and I'm the proud owner of some marginal ones myself! But whether this particular shot shows the advantages of an F30 is certainly open to debate.

I feel the only arena in which the old F series still excel is in low light without a flash. This is the arena that still lets these cameras shine! Admittedly new cameras are getting very close but only after a lot of menu manipulation, whereas the F series require only a cranking of ISO and they are ready for pretty much anything.

Daylight shooting is something else altogether, and from the F50 on IQ has gotten considerably better. The F70EXR for example probably would not have blown out the far right background and the left foot of the person with the tickets wouldn't have been so dark.

It isn't anything special. I like it as a photograph because it captures an interesting moment. On the F30 side, the colors look good and I had the camera with me. I probably would not have taken my DSLR.

Don't read too much into my post. I was going through old photos, ran across this one that I found kind of interesting, and felt like showing it.

You are probably right. I'd guess that a lot of P&S cameras could have done as good a job in this situation. The F30 excels in low light.

I don't think it is a great photo, but "marginal" may be too negative. I think it's a photo that's technically OK, with passable composition, that shows the boys in their element.

Your photo of the children taken on your F30 is great. I'm a professional photographer in Australia and also have one and have taken many travel and underwater photos on mine and keep seeing how great a compact camera it really is. The skin tones and spontaneity of the children are just great and would look good in any travel brochure. Good work

Thanks for your kind remarks.

For me a great photo. Composition is very interesting, it leads the observer in the attention that catches subjects, their expressions are meaningful and spontaneous and positions of bodies enhances their interest. Colors are vivid and skin realistic. DR is also good. Hey, we are talking about a casual photo with a 6mp compact camera released 4 years ago! ;)
