Saw a Sony DSLR in Korea (maybe)

Okay, we're ruling out the ones that definitely don't belong.

Did you note any buttons on the side of the lens barrel?
Did you note any indication at all of zoom power?
Any other silk screening printed on it that comes back to your mind?

Additionally, what else makes you think that it is an SLR? And nonremovable lens?
LOL....it was definitely not that.....the camera I saw was more
sleek.....sexy (if that is an allowable descriptive for a camera)

Gawwd, Chris!! Forget the women!!!

Jeeeeezz... we need you to focus, man!!!!

Now, c'mon!! ;-)
Definitely not the CD1000, and I seem to remember the name being
D1000. I was not allowed to touch it, I only saw it from a
distance......and I have to admit that I was distracted by
beautiful korean girls half naked wearing Sony bikinis. There were
several products there, that new tiny little Sony, and cameras from
other booths I've not seen before (at least on DPReview where I get
my info. from).

I need some regressive hypno therapy to gather the finer details
I'm thinking. One thing for sure though, the buttons on the back
were on the right side, cuz I remember thinking how convenient it
was to be in reach of the right thumb.

Hi,

Just to follow up, I called two friends that I was with at the expo and directed them to this thread and the pics so I can get their input. As soon as they call me back I will let you know what they said. Could be something and could be nothing. :-)

Chris

Are these guys good at following up? Quickly? :-)

I'm not anxious.

Actually, a D700 reemergence would post a perplexing delema for some - buy or wait and see if a CD1000 replacement is forthcoming. A D1000 would probably be limited to around a 5X zoom, but possibly with Sony's 6MP CCD - a great combo, but a hard choice for those of us waiting on another long zoom. Not telling us about what they're coming out with next is understandable, if somewhat tortuous, but not telling us what they're definitely not coming out with so that we have to wait and wait and wait to no avail - now that's downright inhumane!

Rodger

The consensus is..... the camera was branded a Sony D1000, and looks similar but different to the camera Ulysses showed in the picture of the older Sony. Other than that, they really didn't pay attention. I guess time will tell if it pans out to be something.

Hmmmmm, I’m in Russia right now and it looks like they just launched a nuclear attack against the United States, but I wasn’t paying that much attention. Guess you folks there will just have to wait and see what develops.

Let me get this straight. You are a Sony 707 owner and you had the unbelievably rare privilege of seeing in advance what may the biggest news to come from Sony in years concerning digicams, news that tens of thousands of Sony fans are dying to know - you were in the right place at the right time such as any Sony fan would kill for – a much rarer event than winning the lottery – and you didn’t note every detail possible, or even make a drawing?

What should be the proper punishment for this? Banishment from the galaxy? No, not tough enough! Life plus 100 years in solitary confinement on bread and water? No, far too easy for such a heinous crime. Aha! How about grinding your 707 into atomic nucleus-sized dust particles before your very eyes and forever being condemned to using any brand of digicam but a Sony. Most appropriate!

Let this be a warning to you all lest Chris’ fate someday also come upon you!

Did you see it at one of the regular stores in Yongsan Electronics Market? Or was it just a temporary promotional setup?

If you give me some hints where you saw it (Yongsan EM is huge), I'll look around next time I'm in there.

Hello,
I'm not trying to stir up any rumor whirl winds here, but..... I
was in korea for a military deployment and stopped by the Yongsan
Electronics Market during a day off. They were having a big new
technology display with thousands attending. I was cruising around
and came upon the digital camera area. Low and behold, I spotted a
fixed lens DSLR with the Sony brand on it. I was kind of shaped
like the E-10, but much more elegant and curvy. The zoom on the
lens was operated with a ring. Couldn't tell much else. It was
labeled D1000. I was not allowed to touch it at all. When I found
an attendant who spoke English, I asked him if the viewfinder was
EVF, and he told me it was "SLR" style viewfinder. Other than
that, I was told it was not released yet.
My question is if anyone else from the forum was possible in Korea
at the same time and saw this? Or maybe heard of it? This was on
August 31. Thanks.

Hahahahahahahah... so many ways to cause pain, Roger!!! :-)

Even a picture of a Sony DSLR will cause a storm not to mention a real unit for people to handle.

Chris Elkins,

Before there "was" a 707, a fellow walked in uninvited to a Sony distributor demo and actually saw it(I'm sure the Ulysses remembers the details). Because of the description that he gave, everyone thought he was delusional, and that he actually was talking about a video camera. He was vindicated and enoyed quite a bit of positive notariety for awhile.

I believe you have stepped into his shoes, though everyone seems to be going easy on you this time. I surely hope that you are proven correct, whatever the D1000 turns out to be.

Heheheh... we learned our lesson. And Joshua knew how to take care of himself. :-)

And with Chris' own post history, I have no doubt that he saw "something". Hence the questions to try to get more specific detail on what exactly it was that he saw. :-)

Maybe all will be revealed sometime soon.

Maybe Sony have found home for their own 6mp chip after all?

My instinct tells me that it cannot be true. It is virtually impossible that a Sony DSLR just shows up somewhere in Korea without anybody "leaks" anything about it at all.
