Hi

Has anyone pre-ordered CyberLink's PowerProducer?? or is tempted to?
I sure am, I like media show very much but it misses two things I wish it had
1- Only 800X600.
2- Can’t synchronies music to the slide show length.

If PowerProducer cover these points then it’s my best bet, I would like to pre-order to save $20 but what if the program is heavily concentrated on video editing that media show is better for what I need?

Anyone having the same thoughts?

Liya.

I'm new to the forum but I've followed with interest the discussions on SlideShow programs. I've used MediaShow, Pic2Exe, ULead Picture Show, Xat, Opus Illuminatus, and several other less prominent pieces. I too, would like more added to MediaShow, which I think is possible, especially for PC. I'm just afraid that with the trend going more toward DVD, that's where PowerProducer might be heavily geared. The technology appears to be stacked heavily against programs for "photo" presentation on VCD/DVD. That's why those companies trying to capture the photo business has to have no transitions or photos and transitions converted to movies.

In any event, I would be happy to report my findings upon receipt of PowerProducer.

So is PowerProducer a slide show/video producer with the ability to
burn to CD/DVD and play on a standalone? Does it have the same
great text and masking capability as MediaShow?

The website says you can burn movies & photos on CD(VCD) or DVD. That statement along with other references to viewing output on TV indicates the ability to play on standalone. Don't know about the text and masking being the same quality as MediaShow. I sure hope it is.

Hi

Thanks for your input, and please let us know how you find the program when you get it.

The background music should play continuously during the slide show, not start over. Did you preview it before burning or was it choppy during preview?
I just downloaded the trial version of DVD Picture Show and I
wonder - is the background music supposed to start over with each
slide, or continue throughout the show. Its very choppy, but maybe
I did something wrong

It's possible some other TSR, firewall software, etc. interfered with the burning process.

I'm already locked in. Just waiting until they ship around Oct. 15. I sure hope they address your two concerns and keep the good features they already have in MediaShow. If this new product is not up to par, maybe Xatshow will improve their product. I read someplace they are working on an upgrade.

OK Liya, did I make a mistake by pre-ordering? Funny, I've already paid but you get to play with it before me.

I just downloaded the trial version of Power Producer

First impressions are dissapointing, very basic interface with no synchronisation capability for precise timings (Slide show option).

I downloaded the Video Deluxe Demo from the UK section of http://www.magix.com a couple of days back and this looks much more promising than Power Producer, you have so much more control.

Has anybody been able to find an English download for Pictures to CD & DVD by Magix?l

Andrew,

I'm curious as to whether you are still using GlobFX and if so, how do you rate it in comparison to Pic2Exe?

Hi Les

Yes I still use GLOBFX but only if I'm doing a home display of a show on my PC or connected to my TV, or dubbing off to VHS. Any show sent by email or CD ROM I'm doing with Pic2exe

I would use GLOBFX exclusively but there are HARDWARE issues whereby if you don't have an accelerated video card you can't watch the show.

I have actually just stumbled on "Pictures to CD and DVD" and "Video Deluxe" by MAGIX (www.magix.com) which are very similar to GLOBFX but don't allow you to make an exe file but do allow you to Burn to CD or DVD.

Its frustrating really so many software companies come so close to making the perfect slide show production program but none have really succeeded in my book! All we are asking for is:-

Ability to export to exe file or CD or DVD Timeline function to enable you to PRECISELY synchronize to a sound track
Ability to do high quality transitions including fades/dissolves Able to have multiple images on screen at once
Have good text handling capabilities Storyboard capability

Not an exhaustive list I would have thought? GLOBFX does all the above except being able to BURN TO CD and/or DVD, plus it has the hardware issue.

I sometimes wonder if software developers ever read forums like this one?

Andrew,

I too, have been searching for a while for the "ultimate" slideshow software. I have practically come to the conclusion we are not going to see one program that can produce good exe and DVD shows with the features you listed. The movie mode that's used for DVDs with transitions really reduces the quality of photos. The photo mode for DVDs (as used by ULead DVD PictureShow) renders better quality pictures but with no transitions.

I recently inquired of Xat whether they were going to upgrade XatShow and they replied a big upgrade, Version 5, is about to go into testing. Maybe there's still hope. If Xat does not come through, I'm going to settle in on Pic2exe for quick exe slideshows, Opus for deluxe type slideshows, and XatShow for combination exe and DVD shows.

Hi

I gave power producer a try, a quick try to be more accurate, and this is my first impression (keep in mind that I’m only looking to make slideshows)

Can’t synchronize music to the slide show (very very disappointing).
The trail version had only one effect no transitions.

I’m really frustrated, not enough help, a very very limited trail version, I can’t see anything here better than Ulead DVD Picture Show.

I can’t wait for the people who already bought this product to give us a real evaluation.

Sorry I’m no help,
Liya.

Andrew and less I totally agree with you,

I want a program to make PC slideshow, and i'm looking for

The ability to synchronize the slide show to the music

To be able to choose photos from many folders (not having to create a folder with the photos then running the program).
The ability to reorder the photos
Cool transitions
See the result before burning

Make an .exe out of the slideshow, and an output the will fill the screen (not just 800x600)

I just can’t believe that there isn’t a program that covers these basic needs?!

For now the programs I like the most are Medi@show, PhotoJam and xatshow.

Liya.

Have you all tried Illuminatus Opus? I have not seen much about it on the forums but IMO it is a real sleeper. It has slideshow features that can do most of what you're desiring, plus more. It costs a little more ( approx. $120) but you pay for what you get. There's mention of a competitive upgrade at the link below but I could not access it. Opus is an authoring software that can do many things but if you "think" about and concentrate on just generating slideshows when you're evaluating it, it's quite simple. Give it a try - you have nothing to lose at this point.
