been using d100 for 2 months and s2 for nearly a month now, both cameras are great. but my future wife request that one has to go. the d100 or the s2, not the wife.. she said that i spent too much time on them rather on her. please help me make my decision on which to sale to my buddy. i like the d100 cause of the mainly, 1 battery power vs 2, quick response on viewing and clearer protective display lens. use internal flash w/out have to worry of power issue, i really can't stand the fact that i have to fix several pix in ps.

as for s2, great pictures off of the cam, 12mbpix capability. shoot b/w, ieee connection, pc sync terminal, did i mention great pictures off of camera? i really can't stand the fact of cr123a. it's a tough decision i have to make, but it seems that i used d100 more cause of the battery issue. for some odd reason, i've been using a lot of internal flash rather than taking my sb80dx. it's a bit bulky because my future wife complains that it's too big to fit in her purse. both cam cost the same, because i got the grip for the d100 also. your help and input would be greatly appreciated.

Keep the D100, dump the S2 & the wife & get another D100!!

At least they both take Nikon lenses !

The weakness of S2 is X-sync....at only 125th
(this may, or may not matter to you)
The S2 is a battery nightmare, but I suggest you can
buy those CR Lithium batteries, 30 at a time, on the web, for about $ 2 each.
The S2 is a 3rd generation CCD, with slightly better
out-of-camera images than the D100 (which is a 2nd generation CCD).

The D100 X-syncs at a 1/200th. A very good camera.
(just for comparision, the D1,D1H,& D1X sync at a 500th).

Both cameras are only as good as the Photographer...and the lens...
...and the Photoshop skills....etc.

Good luck !

The choice is obvious, dump the one that complains too much. Believe me when I say that photography is much cheaper than getting married or divorced. (;> )

How will getting rid of one camera force you to spend less time on photography? Sounds like there are other issues than camera equipment.
Why don't each of you take a camera and go out photographing together?

I chose a D100 and am very happy with it so my answer is obvious.

Keep the S2, the battery question is not a big deal and the images
need less out-of-camera editing and this will give you more time to
spend with your future Wife ....

Put some of her portraits on the walls and she will let you keep both :-)

Good Luck,
Keith

i do have about 4 frames up of her already. one of them is 20x24 straight out of the cam and believe it or not, it's from d100 normal mode with high sharp with just sb80dx and an old sb22. my next try will be 24x36. actually, i will sale either one and save the $ for the next dslr. hopefully an s2 and d100 combine together to become that one we all are looking for. i have decided to give one up. but not sure which yet.

Bad, bad, bad start. I wouldn't marry her, I'm serius. If she start to trouble you when the toys were bought with 100% of your money, go figure later on. Bad, bad start.

she bought the d100 for my bday and because she knows that i didn't like my 995 because it was too slow, and i bought the s2 because the fact that i didn't have to deal with ps, it take so much time to fix it w/ d100. but that's not the point, the question is whom should i drop. i would not like to have both myself either. the fact that the next dslr will blow these 2 cam away anyway.

...your question.

The D100 can produce great out-of-the-camera results just like the S2 when properly set. The resolution in RAW is almost the same. So why not keep the one that gives you more options? Plus, it would probably be easier to sell a Nikon down the roan when a new model comes. Nikons hold their value better.

So keep her :^)

That one piece of info was the key component of the decision. Since you are generally satisfied with both cameras I would suggest you keep the one she bought you. It will score many brownie points for your relationship, and in today's world you will need all you can get. Relationships are tough to make work and starting one by rejecting her choice is a very bad start. Don't for a minute think she views your choice with indifference. As someone who has been married 23 years (to the same woman) I know that the verbal message may not be an accurate expression of their true sentiment.

Hey!

I think both are great cameras and I was on the fence at one time as well. The batteries being the biggest issues with the S2 however, I learned that you do not need the CR123s at all! It can run just fine on just AAs but you lose the built in flash. If you have an external flash, then no worries, and when you need a built in flash just pop some CR123s in and good to go. At 2 dollars a piece they are expensive, but just put them in when you need the internal flash.

Whichever you choose, you will love either one. I just happened to want the highest resolution possible, otherwise I would have picked the Nikon... it does have some really nice features.

Sean

--- I mean in photographic terms obviously.

I think power is the most important issue and one of the prime reasons I bought the D100.

Now I don’t know your relationship with your wife/girlfriend but all my new equipment has to be “christened”.

I’ve amassed quite a bit of - erm, personal pictures over the years – that got over that sticky wicket when it was my turn – !!!.

I might be broke most of the time but the bottle of wine is the cheapest part - ;)

...either one was a good choice...
