father called a "pervert" for photographing own children in park

I don't get it. Obama supporters have dogs that enjoy breathing fresh air, and the Obama supporters let their dogs breathe that fresh air? My oh my. What will become of America?

if history is any indicator, America will continue to be number ONE. it will innovate, take responsibility and tackle, head on, all challenges, even if the ignorant children break from their video games to elect a socialist president.

"Yesterday he said: ‘What is the world coming to when anybody seen

‘This parental paranoia is getting completely out of hand. I was so
shocked. One of the police officers told me that it was just the way

Crazy indeed. Seeing that he choosed to involve the police, he really should have got that woman for harassment.

There's a generation growing up that won't have pictures of them when they were young, in public places - which is where many 'fun with the family' photos are taken.

I was looking out a window at the secondary school where I work, at the sports day of the primary school children who share the field. In days gone by, there would have been a camera in the hand of every parent watching, to record the event. Now, none of the parents take cameras.

There's going to be a great gap in the photographic archives in future, that in the past would have had images of children's events.

Obama is about as "Socialist" as McCain. In the new world we live in, supporting the public library is a step on the road to Communism. Asking for a living wage law, is called Stalinism, and those who want universal health care are supporters of Pol Pot... :)

Mr. Obama has swung so far to the right that the "substantive" debate now consists of accusing each other of being "celebrities." :)

After eight years of Mr. Bush, I wonder why anyone wants to be President.

Perhaps he is.

But I don't fear Mr. McCain as I do Mr. Bush. He's promised to cease vetoing laws with signing statements, he's pledged to close down Guantanamo - He seems to respect the Constitution.

The 21th Century calls for another Roosevelt. Sad that we are reduced to this kind of choice.

But don't be too sure that he's going to win...

On the job training? What do you mean, that Obama doesn't have enough experience? C'mon, years of doing a mediocre job (McCain) or years doing a bad job (pre-president Bush) hardly qualifies someone to be a president, no?

As far as taxes go, uh, how the heck do you think we're paying for the occupation of Iraq? We're maxing out our credit cards and at some point we're going to have to pay for the Republican war.

Radical left? Are you serious? Can you give me some examples of radical left ways? Do you consider universal health care (which is common in England, Switzerland, France and Japan) to be radical?
he might be capable of some real damage
Really? More than Bush's buddies did? I mean, given the robustness of the American economy, those guys REALLY had to work at it to damage the country.
to our great nation.
No disrespect intended (seriously), but how do you define "great"?
but this race is his to lose. obama's handlers must be near cardiac
arrest each time he opens his mouth.
Really? Have you seen the record of the stuff McCain says? Of course Bush sets the gold standard for inability to link words together coherently, but McCain has said some astonishingly ridiculous things.

What a krappy world where I fear for my life for simply taking
harmless photographs!
That is YOUR choice then, not a choice that is being forced on you.
You are choosing to fear taking photographs. If you are not breaking
any laws, if you are not doing something that others might find
objectionable to their children or safety, then what is the problem?
You state you carry mace around, why? I can't imagine the world you
live in that makes you fear something so much.

I could die of a heart attack in 10 minutes.
Me too, but I try to keep in shape and eat well.
I could be killed
driving my car home tonight.
....Same here. Hence the reason why I wear a seat belt, and obey the laws of the road.
Or, I could be attacked and killed
inside my own home for no reason, but do I constantly live in fear of
that, NO!!!!!!!
....Me too, hence the reason why I lock my doors, and pack a Beretta with a 15 round clip filled with hollow point bullets for warning shots, if that is possible.. I also have a revolver that fires 410 shotgun shells that if legal, I'd keep in my car for close range defense, like a car-jacking situation.
It is your choice to live in fear, or live life to the fullest and
enjoy it.
....LOL, I have a plan, and a real means of self defense while you are a sitting duck.
It is a choice you have to make.
....You are right, and I am well armed because I value my life, and wellbeing, as well as the lives of others as well. If only Jim Doyle would not veto my right to carry a gun without being arrested in Wisconsin, I'd be able to help protect other people from lawless individuals too, simply by the threat to criminals of not knowing who is armed or not, which has driven down violent crime in every State where carry permits are allowed.
But let me help another
way if I may. You are going to die at some point, so you might as
well enjoy life while you are here, and I will be damned if some
paranoid person(s) is going to change me because of THEIR problems.
And especially if I am taking photographs of MY CHILDREN.
....First of all, I don't want some criminal to decide for me when it will be my time to die. Just because I carry a nice camera, and a wallet filled with CCs, and $, doesn't mean that he has the right to decide it's time for me to die just so he can have the means of affording his crack addiction.

Second, I take pictures in public, just because you don't doesn't mean that I should not. My job is taking pictures in public for publishers. In the course of my job I have had my LIFE threatened by lawless individuals ranging from gang-bangers, to over-reactive people who normally follow the law. Maybe you live in a world where you aren't in danger of being car-jacked while traveling through a krappy part of town where hookers and drug addicted gang bangers roam.

What is your job like..? Are you in a safe cubical, or a safe class room, or a safe factory, or out in public, doing things that may inadvertently upset people who aren't "normal" / mentally ill, who may have their decisions influenced by alcohol or other drugs? FYI, I don't have any children. I don't run around taking pictures of other people's children, unless the assignment requires a shot that may involve children being in it. Additionally, sometimes other people's children get in my photos, and or maybe they are in public scenes that I am photographing. I take it you've never seen a newspaper..? Most of the threats however didn't involve me photographing children whatsoever.
Take a stand against these types of people, or they will take over
every freedom we have left.

How many here would have done what this guy did, in LEAVING THE PARK
AND GOING HOME TO CALL THE MEDIA TO TELL THIS STORY. The story
appears to come from the father and his wife, who wanted to share
their experience.
......No kidding, that is what the media is intended for. To tell stories. To inform people. I assume this individual wanted to share his experience in the media where he could tell many more people than he ever could on his own.

What do you feel he should do, keep quiet about it..? Keep it to himself..? Heck, I had a similar experience where I shared about it right here on DPReview.com that involved the Police officers from the City of Brookfield, Wisconsin who acted very unprofessionally towards me after responding to a "suspicious person" call. I've had several experiences with law enforcement officers in the past where they responded to similar calls where they acted professionally and left without incident. As a matter of fact, I recently wrote about one such incident on my Myspace page, which I include a photograph of a 21+ year old model who I photographed in a public place where the police were called and left us alone after he learned that we were legit. The Brookfield police department however, decided that since they couldn't arrest me, or get me upset in order to justify arresting me, they would ticket me for something really lame; not displaying my front plates. I'll bet they don't pull over every guy with a BMW for not displaying the ugly Wisconsin plate on the front bumper either.. They began pelting me with questions like "Do you have any children of your own", or "Imagine how the parents must feel because of you". A friend of mine who is a former police officer for the City of Milwaukee, and former professional photographer, who has had to deal with much more serious matters confirmed that the officers from The City of Brookfield conducted themselves inappropriately based on my side of the events that took place, which is backed up by my photos, and their own dispatch notes which I have a copy of.
Give me a break for goodness sakes alive. Tell the women, "I am
taking pictures of my children, if you don't like it, take your
overprotective ways and your children home and leave me the hell
alone". Stand up for yourself dude. Instead of running away
because some paranoid woman called you a pervert, deal with it face
to face and confront her. It is HER PROBLEM, NOT YOURS.
......You know,...I just responded to you a second ago, where you tell me to not liver in fear. If I were to do what you are suggesting in every situation, I doubt if I would be alive today. There is a way to diffuse a situation, and getting in someone's face isn't one of them. You come across as a very reckless individual.
We can either teach our children to be safe and have fun and enjoy
what the world has to offer, or we can run and hide, thus raising
children that live in constant fear.

I choose the course of enjoying life without the fear. I could die
tomorrow of a heart attack, car accident, or one of a million other
ways to die. I am sure as hell not going to let some paranoid woman
keep me from enjoying my children and their lives while I am alive.

I am embarrassed for this Man and his family. They ran away from the
confrontation, when this lady really needed to hear it outloud how
much her paranoia was out of line.

Goodness gracious.

He wasn't THAT radical to begin with, and as he's moved to the Right, his numbers are dropping like a stone. He was in fact increasingly popular because he was taking popular positions. You might think that the tax burden should fall on the Middle Class, the American People do not. Nor do the American People want a continuation of our slavery to NAFTA and the WTO, and he's swtiched to McCains position here as well.

Now, it's hard to tell the difference between the two men, at least politically... :)

Since Obama is no longer promising change, he's created a choice between two personalities, no longer two positions.

At any rate, I WAS planning to vote from him, and I'll now vote for either Nader or Barr.

...Obama is a Jr. Senator who was on the job for 6 months. Prior to that he was a community activist. Senator McCain served several terms as a US Senator, which are 6 year terms, He was also in WAR, unlike Obama who never even served, not even in a National Guard unit, but attended a church for 20 years where he listened to messages from a racist leader who clearly hates The United States of America. Thus you feel that Obama is qualified to be the leader of our Nation..? You can vote for Obama, I'm going to vote against you.
As far as taxes go, uh, how the heck do you think we're paying for
the occupation of Iraq? We're maxing out our credit cards and at some

.....Oh, it's a "Republican War".. Thanks for being honest. I've long believed that if it were Gore's war, there wouldn't be an issue . BTW, most Democrats approved of this "Republican war" too.. I just you should be reminded of that. & thanks to the Surge that McCain supported long ago, even when it wasn't popular with Obama, has shown to be effective. I'm sorry, but it looks like you guys will have to wait longer than expected for the USA death toll to rise above 5,000. It's a shame you can't celebrate that sooner.. ;-)

Oh, so my fear of violent crime is "irrational"..?

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=537198

I do the majority of my work in Milwaukee County, where crime is on the rise, and our public officials aren't doing squat about it other than asking people not to victimize others./ not much of a plan..

I'll bet Jim Doyle thinks just like you do. He can afford to. He works & lives with protection from several armed state troopers. Now, why would that be..? Why are the police armed..? Why should they carry weapons to defend the lives of themselves and others if corporate crooks were the only criminals to be fearful of..?

My suggestion is to put a little more thought/ logic into your arguments.

He's not in favor of Universal Health care - I only wish such was the case. If your not aware that taxes on working people and the Middle Class have gone up, what State do you live in? While my "benefit" from the Bush tax cuts consisted of an extra $100 bucks, the lowered Federal aid to the States have caused them (and the Cities and Counties) to raise THEIR taxes, and almost of all of that tax hike has been on working people and the Middle Class.

Obama's "liberal" voting record is a product of nothing liberal to vote on. Almost a no brainer. Russ Feingold, whose much more liberal than he is, has a far more "Conservative" voting record.

But the point has been made by another posted - Just who is going to Eventually pay for the Credit Card tab we've been building up for the past eight years?

While it seems to be a mantra to repeat the words, "Taxes are your money," I'm always left with the impression that the National Debt is owned by residents of Alpha Centauri... Which is good, because It's going to be real hell when the Chinese forclose... :(
