Where did you get the S200 at? I've been waiting for a month now! I'm a novice, but the pictures look pretty good. I saw a lot of CA (purple fringing) on the lamp post in the overcast sky, but other than that I didn't see any at all. I think that was cause by the CCD "blooming". The color and noise level is very good.

Hi,

Picked up an S200 today. Here are some samples in case anyone's
interested. Nothing special, just some test shots.

Hi,

Yes, I do :-) ..

Working till midnight .. downcast day, can't take good pics :-( ..

Sabesh.
Great pics, do you work in Rogers? =)

Sabesh,

MANY thanks for showing us your pics taken with your new S200. I really enjoyed seeing scenes of Toronto, one of my favorite cities of the world.

I did notice chromatic aberration in the shot of the plant leaves (one of the leaves in the upper left hand corner) & in the jeep shot (right side of jeep's white roof) but it did'nt seem that bad overall (at least to me), but I'm not a digital photo expert by any stretch of the imagination. I also noticed that all the pics have a slight grey cast to them (like I had mentioned in the shots taken by the Kycoera finecam S4 shown on Steve's Digicam Review site), but perhaps that's because it was just a grey day. Curious to hear from the photography techie experts here about the S200's image quality. Based on Sabesh's pics, how does the S200 compare to the Canon S330, S110, S300, and Kyocera finecam S4?

Thanks. Likewise, I think the SF Bay area is absolutely breathtaking. I used to live there 10 yrs ago in the East Bay (Albany).

Now that you mention it, I notice this too. Although I'm not too bothered (I'm a rank newbie). It's a nice lil' camera, and I think I'm going to keep it. You should have heard all the "oohs" and the "aahs" I'm getting from colleagues @work when they see this camera :-)

Sabesh, thanks for posting those pictures!

I noticed chromatic aberrations but they are not that big, or as big as I expected so this is good news.

Scott- you comment on the "flatness" of the picture- I wonder how the pictures would look in "vivid" color settings - does the Kyocera has a "vivid" color setting? (saturation boost?)

Guys, is it me but does it seem like some pictures have more "blurriness" (softness) to them than the S110v?

Sabesh, where the pictures taken with the "soft" photo effect?

Thanks,
  • Raist

Sabesh, where the pictures taken with the "soft" photo effect?
No, they were all taken in the manual mode with normal effect. It was a downcast day here in Toronto. I'll try and post some more pics when the weather is a bit better. Maybe the weather made these pics look soft.

Cheers,

Sabesh.

Hi Scotty,

No, the S200 does not have a speaker for all 3 instances that you've mentioned. I was a bit dissapointed at this, as Steve's digicam stated that the S200 had a speaker :-(

Best regards,

Sabesh.
Does the S200 include an internal speaker for any or all of the
following?

a) hearing the movie clip audio
b) hearing an audible camera shutter click
c) hearing startup sounds

Scotty, the local Target store here in Billings Montana has had the s200 for several days now. I believe it is priced at $350. perhaps your local store might have one you could examine if you would like. I thought the s200 looked "cheaper" than it's predecessors. I don't remember if it had a speaker or not.
Target will give you a ten percent discount on your first purchase with a new Target Visa card.

I have previously owned s100 and was quite impressed with the camera for its small size and decent picture quality.

I recently purchased an s330 which I feel had much improved controls and easier to use menu. I especially like the audible shutter click beings I am little hard of hearing.

The s330 does appear to have a quality build but does seem substantially larger in appearance though when carrying or using the camera I don't notice it at all.

The three power zoom made more of a difference than I had even anticipated and feel it is very much worth the extra size and unnoticeable increase in weight.

The s330 has in my opinion a substantial improvement in color fidelity and a slight to modest gain in sharpness.

As for the much discussed chromatic aberrations, I don't feel there is a significant difference between my s100 and the s330. There seems to be a discernible shift from purple fringing to blue fringing in the very rare instances that it has appeared at all. I have tried to take some photos where the CA would almost surely occur and the few times that it was apparent it was no worse than some of the much higher priced cameras.

The s330 does seem to be a little more sensitive to shaking and has resulted in some pictures that seemed a little out of focus. This probably is due to my feeble abilities. I still need to learn the idiosyncrasies of this camera.

I have also read in this forum that the s330 has problems focusing in low light I have not found this to be in the least bit true. I have taken acceptable photographs in absolute darkness at various distances. The flash does seem stronger than on the s100.

My overall conclusion of my new camera is that while it does have some shortcomings(as do most other cameras in it's class) overall it is very pleasant and easy to use and for the state of the technology and does provide acceptable photos.

Hi,

I originally wanted to buy an S40, but I could not find a small, padded case which I could hook onto my belt. Silly reason not to buy a camera, you say: However, I was SO used to carrying my lil' S110 everywhere, that a snug fitting, small case was important to me :-) .. I found one at last, and returned my S200 and bought an S40.

Please keep in mind that I was NOT dissapointed with my S200. It was just time to move onto my next phase of photography: From that of a hapless newbie to that of a rank amateur :-)

For the benefit of prospective S200 buyers, I have added some more pics taken with my S200 just before I returned it. They are at the SAME location. Cheers.

Regards,

Sabesh.

Thanks for the extra pictures. I think most of those pictures can be printed on 8.5x11 fine. Accurate color and grey scale. Some of the pics looked slightly over exposed. Were you in manual mode? If so, what settings?
