What was your first camera? SLR or DC and what was it?

My first SLR was Nikon Nikromat with nikkor F1.4 lens.I am still using the camera. My first digicam was canon Zapshot with a nonstanderd floppy storage. Both cameras are still in top working conditions, except canon's battery which canon stoped making it.I still can use it with AC.

After that I had several other cameras, ranging from Fuji, casio and sony digital.I used canon zapshot with Targa16 capture card on 386 machine.

The captured photos were so good in both clarity and sharpness that even my F707 does not give me the same satisfaction.

I was talking with several in a group today. We were talking aoout
photography and everyone seemed to enjoy discussing which was our
very first camera owned. Two had never owned an SLR a few told me
their first camera was a Poloroid Swinger. lol

So, please take a moment and, let us all know what was your first
camera, an SLR or Digicam?

And, which camera model was it.... if you can remember?

Last, if you've had several cameras.... which was your favorite?

It will be interesting to know.

Thank you,
Mark J.

Maybe you should start a thread for all the people who started photography with a Kodak Brownie....Wouldn't it be interesting to see how old they are and hear their stories. I started with the Brownie and have been taking pictures ever since. I joined the first camera thread a few days ago as having a Brownie as my first camera. Glad there are others who have signed in and reported about their Brownie.

Hey not only would I believe it was a Brownie....
there are several people in this thread who's first was a Brownie!!
So, you are not alone. There are obviously a few STF members who
are from the same era as you. Wait, era sounds too ancient. lol
Let's change that to decade. :-)

Thank you for participating

1956 I got a Kodak Retina 1b with a Schneider-Kreutznach famous lens.
Giving beatifull scanns!

Still in use! Before that I had an Boxcamera Corona named Coronet (with patent smile No 377036 4.5x6 cm) Use it now and then to show people
that there was only one big step - the picture! And it's fun - and it works!
It has never been at Corona for reparatin. Fix-Focus(uouto-focus?? smile .

You should see peoples faces when I use it - You should also see peoples faces seing the result.

Wow Bo....

those are cameras I've NEVER even heard of. Of course, when you got your first camera (1956) i was only 1 year old !!!!! lol

They sound very interesting though. I would love to see a picture of what they look like. Would you be kind enough to post a pic or two of them?

Thanks for participating.

Speaking of Mamiya, you reminded me of the old Twin Lens Mamiya I had before the Mamiya 645, then a Hassy. All the darkroom hours and lab charges. Boy am I excited about my 707. It is cool. It takes some of the best pics I have seen.

Well...... I'm not sure which I'm more fascinated with, the old camera or the old pictures!!

Thank you so much for uploading those for me to enjoy.... and I did.

Mark J., Did it look like anything you might have expected to?. I always thought it look very much like my first Polariod. Very compact figuring they were still trying to fine tune their products back then. Boy have we come a long way! 8-} Shayron

My first (I made it myself) was a pin hole camera which displayed images upside down. No CA, no barrel distorsion, no BSF, no dead pixels...nothing. Of course it could not take pictures (you did not specifty that !) Lol.

My second is a Minolta SLR (SRT 100X) which I bought 22 years ago and is still working perfectly. Everything is manual. This is my favourite.

Well..... we certainly have come a long way haven't we??

We now have digital cameras that large corporations manufacture, with defects that baffle the end user. lol Look how long it took Sony to figure out that people like haveing an actual viewfinder on their digicams? :-)
Not everyone is in love with the LCD screens.

I bet your old camera didn't have any defects... other than it's own natural limitations? Right? Or, was yours defective?

Like many others, my true first camera was a 127-size Kodak Brownie that my dad gave me inthe 2nd grade. My first 'photographers camera' was a rangefinder 35mm Canonet 1.9 that I used for a few years before moving to a Mamiya-Sekor SLR. And it's been all money pouring ot of my wallet ever since!

Mark J, It doesn't look like it. And I'm afraid I'm one of the ones that almost totally use the viewfinder. I wear glasses at times but I don't use them to take pictures so I can't trust the LCD. Pictures are sharper for me using the eye piece. IMHO I think they would have been doing such a great camera an injustice by leaving it off. Good for us 'old fogies' lol 8D Shayron

Has anyone see the really cool pictures ybnormal posted of that OLD, and I mean OLD camera?

And, have you seen the images that were taken with that camera... also uploaded in ybnormals gallery (see link in their thread)
