I took my G2 in to Canon Canada's Montreal facility on Tuesday and got it back Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately when I took it home the flash wouldn't fire. Took it back this morning and got it back in the early afternoon. The flash problem was due to a connector that was not in place when the new cover was installed. Everything works perfectly now. So, two days all in all.

That is great Gordon! Did they just replace the back cover with an identical back cover or has their been some change to either the composition of the plastic or has the assembly been modified in some way. I am leery of sending it in for repair without knowing for sure that they have a real fix for it! (Also, I am nowhere near a repair facility so I would be without my camera for weeks, not days like you!)

Leezah,

The repair people here told me there was a small modification made to the camera. The servce rep in Toronto also said there was a slight modificaion made to the back as well. We'll see how well this new one holds up. I am pleased that it was handled so quickly, probably because mine was the first G2 they had serviced.

It's interesting that the rep, and the repair facility, can tell you something that Canon is as yet unwilling to say....ta

Interesting! The response I got from a Service Rep at the Canon USA facility in Illinois yesterday was merely that they are aware of the problem, and are working on resolving it.

I asked them pointedly whether the repair was simply another back put on the camera and they said no, there was a modification or mdifications made to the camera and the back itself. I did not speak to the repair technician but the person in Toronto, Canon Canada's HQ (hereafter refered to as Can Can) is "the" Technical Support Representative.

Leezah,

That is strange. When I showed up at the Montreal facility they were a bit surprised to see someone with a cracked G2 so soon after they had received parts and instructions for reparing the crack.

Well, I hope the Illinois facility is soon to follow! : )

I'm not sure why the Canadian G2s would be serviced first unless it is due to the limited number of new parts available and the smaller number of G2s in Canada. Ten USAians for every Canadian. There would be a deluge of repairs in the US. My 2 cents worth and that's only 1.34 cents US.

This came up in another thread - what did they do about the serial number label on the bottom of the case - seems to be part of the BACK.

Your repaired one have this label with S/N???

Oh, they want me to send it in for service AND they are working on a resolution - well, without a firm resolution I am not sending it in. Of course they could just replace the back without any modification, but then it just might happen again.

They removed the little sticky tape that has the seial number on it and placed it on the new back. I can see a little lifted edge on the tape.

WOW! The repair facility, here in the States (Illinois) needs to take lessons from you guys! It would take them more than a day to realize they had the camera in their possession.

That's really hard to tell, but my wife thinks it looks different than the original.

Gordon Peffer
Just wondering if the colour of the new back is the same as the one
you had on the camera before the repair? Heard someone post that
the new back is more silvery looking. You find that in your case?

Did they placed it on YOUR camera or another one they had repaired?

Bye!
