Could someone recommend what batteries (best price) are available in the UK that would be suitable for the 400D. I have just added a Canon battery grip to my 400D and require another battery but don't want to pay the Canon price for one. Should I buy a pair of non OEM batteries or should I keep the original and add a non Canon battery. Thanks in advance for any info.

I got two from Walmart online that were the "digital concepts" brand, 1300 milliamphour, for $29.00 (US) each. They seem to last forever. I keep the one that came with the camera as a spare.

I bought two for my battery grip in June for $9.97 each. They work great.

You'll kill me on this... but the local Radio Shack was going out of business (across the street from where I work)... so they were having a huge sale, and I managed to snag the last battery for the 300D (1300 mAh) for $3.95... I just had bought another one from a local photo store for $75 earlier in the day... so I was able to return it. The Radio Shack battery works just as good as other batteries that I've used.

What I was going to say (hit the post button accidently)... is that battery technolgy is pretty standard (minus the recent Sony incident)... there's nothing really new for DSCs... so you should be able to get what you need from any reputable source... often at a good discount over "name" brands.

I wonder if all those who replied to the above ever read the post.

The world is WIDER than the USA. The question was specific to the UK. We KNOW we get ripped off in the UK and don't need it emphasising by US based posters who can't be bothered to read the post and ASSUME that the rest of the world is just the same as their neighbourhood.

I agree totally.

Many thanks to all for the info. I just ordered a twinpack of batteries and a 1GB card from the 7day shop.

I bought a twinpack from 7dayshop for £10.99 and they work fine.
As good as the originals.
Also check out their prices on cf cards. I have bought the 1 gig
SandiskII's from them and can confirm that they are not cheap
copies.
I second that. Just bought a 2 GB CF card and a spare battery from
7dayshop for 28.73 including postage. The individual cost of the spare
battery is 6.79.

Cheers

I would hope that the poster could order online anywhere he wanted and have it shipped to him/her.

The UK? Is that in Canada?

P.S. I'm joking. But seriously, I think there are batteries available on amazon.co.uk

He then faces the shipping costs, if the shipper is willing to send to Europe from the US, Customs duties and costs and the very real possibility of having UK VAT added at 17.5%

The world is indeed a wider place than America, but don't tell the yanks that because they'll have to start inviting other countries to play in their WORLD Series Baseball matches. That one always make me laugh...hahahaha
